From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation search This article is about the Fleischmann–Pons claims and related experiments. For accepted examples of fusion at temperatures below the millions of degrees Celsius required for thermonuclear fusion, see Nuclear fusion . For the original use of the term 'cold fusion', see Muon-catalyzed fusion . For all other definitions, see Cold fusion (disambiguation) Diagram of an open type calorimeter used at the New Hydrogen Energy Institute in Japan. Cold fusion is nuclear fusion of atoms at conditions close to room temperature, in contrast to the conditions of well-understood fusion reactions such as those inside stars and high energy experiments. Interest in the field increased dramatically after nuclear fusion was reported in a tabletop experiment involving electrolysis of heavy water on a palladium (Pd) electrode by Martin Fleischmann , then one of the world's leading electro-chemists and Stanley Pons in 1989. They reported anomalous heat production ("excess heat") of a magnitude they asserted would defy explanation except in terms of nuclear processes. They further reported measuring small amounts of nuclear reaction byproducts, including neutrons and tritium These reports raised hopes of a cheap and abundant source of energy.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation search Cold fusion is nuclear fusion at room temperature and normal pressure . Nuclear fusion is the process by which many nuclei , the center of an atom , containing protons and neutrons , are forced to join together to form a heavier nucleus (singular of nuclei) and during that process, energy is released. Some scientists hope that this may be Earth's future energy source, but most scientists do not agree. For nuclear fusion to take place, a large amount of energy is needed. With this energy, the atoms are pushed together, which are repelled by the electrostatic force (a force between protons which are particles in the nucleus of the atom and have a positive electrical charge). But once this force is overcome and the nuclei are pushed close enough together, another much more powerful force will take over: the strong nuclear force. It only operates at short distances, so when the nuclei are close enough, they attract each other because of the strong nuclear force which is stronger than the electrostatic force. It is hoped that the energy released by cold fusion is much greater than the energy used to push the atoms together. In 1989 two scientists, Stanley Pons and Martin Fleischmann, published a paper in

Public interest in cold fusion began in dramatic fashion in 1989 when chemists Stanley Pons of the University of Utah and Martin Fleischmann of the University of Southampton reported in a press conference that they had conducted low-cost experiments that led to the production of excess heat in an electrolytic cell in a manner that could only be produced by a nuclear fusion process. The fusion of nuclei is an energy source, as is witnessed by the hydrogen bomb . A number of nuclei fuse together in an exploding hydrogen bomb releasing enormous amounts of energy, but, unfortunately, this happens in an uncontrolled manner. Since the early 1950s worldwide research is underway to control the fusion process because it would give an unlimited source of energy. This research focuses on very high temperatures (on the order of a billion degrees

This topic is highly controversial among scientists in general. Cold fusion research was generally rejected in 1989-1990, largely based on the lack of any accepted theoretical explanation, and questions raised about the quality of the original research that established the field. However, the core of the original research, the finding of anomalous heat in palladium deuteride, was never conclusively impeached, and many independent research groups have reported this, as well as other associated findings. However, the effect remains fragile and methods have not been developed and demonstrated that reliably produce practical amounts of heat. In spite of over 20 years of serious efforts by many, occasionally well-funded, you cannot buy a "Cold fusion hand warmer," not to mention a "Cold fusion samovar" in which to brew cups of tea. Not yet, for sure, not even as an expensive novelty. This resource is being developed from the point of view that research into this field is legitimate, and that point of view is confirmed by how the field was treated in the 2004 U.S. Department of Energy review, as well as the publication of many secondary source reviews, in mainstream journals, since that formal review.

ColdFusion Demonstration Welcome to my ColdFusion demonstration website. I would like to take a few moments to explain my minimalist design philosophy. The point of most business websites is to provide users with information. Users should not have to wait for pointless or unnecessary graphics or splash screens to load. As Dragnet's Sgt. Joe Friday said; "We just want to get the facts, sir." Graphics are fine when used sparingly. Such as branding of the site, highlighting special information and links, to provide the user with information that would be better understood in a visual format, or when discreetly used to enhance the look of a site/page. There are several bottom-line benefits to minimalist design philosophy.
    • Reduced server loading. Reduced storage requirements. Reduced bandwidth usage. Reduced production costs.
In closing, I would like to thank you for taking the time to look at my demonstration website. I also appreciate your consideration in hiring me for a position with your company. Carl Ray McGee II Server: Microsoft-IIS/6.0
