Crop Circle Theories
Crop circles are areas of cereal or similar crops that have been systematically flattened to form various geometric patterns. The phenomenon itself only entered the public imagination in its current form after the notable appearances in England in the late 1970s. Various scientific and pseudo-scientific explanations were put forward to explain the phenomenon, which soon spread around the world. In 1991, more than a decade after the phenomena began, two men, Doug Bower and Dave Chorley, revealed that they had been making crop circles in England since 1978 using planks, rope, hats and wire as their only tools. Many other people around the world are also openly making crop circles. Although the commonly accepted view today is that crop circles are a man-made phenomenon, paranormal explanations, often including UFOs, are still popular. In paranormal circles the study of the crop circle phenomena is called Cerealogy. Cerealogists commonly refer to these designs as agriglyphs or landscape art. Crop circles are found in fields, over tree-tops, and in ice and snow. They are mostly often found in wheat or corn fields, but have also been found in oat, rape (canola), and barley. They are a world wide phenomena, highlighted in England.

Sir Paul McCartney was met with rapturous applause during his debut American poetry recital. The former Beatle read to an audience in New York from his newly-published book entitled Blackbird Singing. Sir Paul told the 1,000-strong crowd that some critics had attacked his work. He said: "They don't like me stepping out of my chosen field. But hell I want to do it, so tough." Disney 'signs' Sixth Sense director Walt Disney Pictures is reported to have purchased Signs, the latest supernatural thriller from Sixth Sense writer/director M Night Shyamalan. Signs takes place in Shyamalan's home state of Pennsylvania and centres on the sudden appearance of 500ft crop circles. Neither party would comment on the amount Shyamalan will be paid for Signs, which starts filming in the autumn. The 29-year-old director was paid $10m (6.25) upfront for his last film, the 2000 hit Unbreakable. As a new study claims some crop circles are created by shifts in the earth's magnetic field, George Bishop, of the Centre for Crop Circle Studies, expounds on the phenomenon.
According to Dr Colin Andrews, who has studied crop circles for 17 years, about 20% are caused by eddies in the earth's magnetic field - the rest are man-made. He thinks a mysterious shift in the electro-magnetic field creates a current that flattens the crops in its path. Is it plausible? "Yes - it's a nice rounded theory," says Mr Bishop. Like Dr Andrews, he says all but the simplest circles are hoaxes. The theory could explain why in some circles, microphones and recording equipment hit interference, he says. Some years ago, a BBC crew had difficulty recording in a circle.
New theory: electro-magnetic eddies flatten the crops
"If the circles are formed by electro-magnetic eddies, there may be a residual charge of energy," Mr Bishop says. But he does not think the new theory is the final word: "It doesn't explain why often the nodes of the plants have swollen up to 200 times the original size."

Colin Andrews has researched crop circles since the 80s
Research into the appearance of crop circles in summer fields claims the strange phenomena are caused by the Earth's magnetic field.
Elaborate patterns are certainly man-made
Scientist Colin Andrews says 17 years of work has revealed that about 80% of the formations are man-made. But he believes that magnetism may account for the rest, which display a simplicity of form compared with elaborate, beautiful patterns of the "hoaxes". Dr Andrews believes a mysterious shift in the magnetic field gives rise to a current that "electrocutes" the crops forcing them to lie flat on the ground. Summertime feature The known hoaxers, artists who spend hours trampling fields with footboards attached to a length of rope, say the public does not believe in scientific explanations.
John Lundberg: The public do not want to believe scientists
Crop circles are a regular summertime feature of the UK arable landscape, particularly in Wiltshire and the West Country where there are a number of ancient sites.

US billionaire funds crop circle research

Some crop circles can be very elaborate
US billionaire Laurance Rockefeller is to fund the UK's biggest survey of crop circles. The BBC's Jane O'Brien: There are unexplained factors such as the lack of footprints Scientists will be carrying out aerial research over Wiltshire next month in the hope of finding out once and for all whether the mysterious patterns are genuine or the work of hoaxers. Some believe they are created by UFOs during nocturnal visits. Others say they are connected to ancient "ley lines", or put it down to natural phenomena such as unusual forms of lightning. The first few crop circles of the season have already appeared in several West Country fields. The area has long been the focal point of those in Britain who believe that the circles are the work of extra terrestrial forces. Last year a US Website advertised week-long tours of UK crop circles priced at $2,199 per person. Until now research has been carried out by amateurs and enthusiasts, known as croppies. But there is a growing scientific discipline based around the study, known as cereology.

Locals say these circles are UFO landing sites
The overnight appearance of crop circles in a field in southern Russia has puzzled farmers, with witnesses saying aliens landed there. Russian Public TV reported that a farmer from the village of Yuzhnoye, Stavropol Territory called in local officials "to record an act of vandalism" after finding that his field of ripe barley had seemingly been ruined.
Officials believe alien landing reports
Closer examination revealed four distinct circles - one 20 metres in diameter in the centre and three outer ones 5-7m in diameter each. The barley had been smoothed down "as if by hand" in a clockwise direction. Representatives of the Stavropol security council arrived on the scene and suppressed all reports of what happened. They found no traces of radiation or chemicals, and human intervention was ruled out. UFO landing Officials found eyewitnesses in a neighbouring village who said they had seen a UFO landing in the field.

Crop circles: There is nothing to explain
By BBC News Online science editor Dr David Whitehouse Most people have heard of crop circles, those fascinating and often beautiful, symmetrical patterns cut into the crops mostly in southern England. They first came to media attention eight years ago when the strange circles started appearing in Wiltshire. At first, they were just circles. Then rings and circles within circles appeared - fairly simple shapes that could possibly have a natural explanation. Such as the vortex idea. Perhaps, some speculated, a mini-tornado could strike the ground swirling the crops into the symmetrical patterns. But then the crop circle phenomena changed. The circles became ever more complex and were clearly not a natural phenomenon. We saw circles that were very intricately designed according to advanced mathematical theory. On more than one occasion, a crop circle was later added to and filled in with extra circles and shapes. To some, this was all very curious. Obviously, they said, these circles were being made by aliens, or perhaps visitors from some other dimension, or perhaps they were sites of cosmic energy breaking through into our continuum. Perhaps, they speculated, it was our own planet trying to tell us something about our stewardship of the environment.

The Spiritual Genome
Fascinating new discoveries by Russian molecular biologists have revealed that DNA has a mysterious resonance that has been termed the Phantom-DNA Effect. In addition these Russian researchers have found that DNA reacts to voice activated laser light when it is set at the specific frequency of the DNA itself. Using these methods it is possible not only to change the information patterns in the DNA, but it is also possible to communicate with the DNA. It seems that there is a divine intelligence in the DNA that is capable of resonating with the natural frequency of the earth in order to create crop circles. This divine intelligence is what the Hindus refer to as the Inner Self, and there are indications that the increase in crop circle activity in recent decades is set to coincide with the end of the Mayan calendar, at which point this divine intelligence in the DNA will become generally known to the world, thus ushering in a new era in 2012. This website presents a series of articles that have been published in The Circular, the official magazine produced by the Centre for Crop Circle Studies in England. The 2004 Autumn edition contains the article The Mayan Boomerang, and the other three articles Crop Circles Explained, The Tao of Crop Circles and The Tunguska Crop Circle are in issue #55.

BEHIND THE HOAXERS - PHYSICISTS, SCIENTISTS, STOMPERS AND THE SECRET HISTORY OF CIRCLE FAKING by Marcus Allen
(from The Sussex Circular #33, September, 1994) An international organisation exists which appears to be solely concerned with debunking and ridiculing the work of others. This organisation is CSICOP - The Committee for the Scientific Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal. It was formed in 1976 by Professor Paul Kurtz as a breakaway group from the American Humanist Association. Paul Kurtz, born in 1925, is now retired as a philosophy lecturer at New York University. Politically, he is a Social Democrat, part of the American Non-Communist Left through which the CIA channeled funding from large American foundations such as Ford and Rockefeller, to promote liberalism in Europe during the Cold War. Kurtz was concerned about the revival of Astrology in the US, and circulated a letter to leading scientists and academics collecting 186 signatures, including those of 18 Nobel Prize winners, to a manifesto called "Objections to Astrology", the publication of which brought about the formation of CSICOP. Soon afterwards, Kurtz held a press conference in New York to announce "a campaign to purge the media of occultist leanings" and to ensure "no TV programs dealing with parascience would go out unvetted by the appropriate authorities", i.e. CSICOP. Among it's first members were science fiction writer Isaac Isimov, magician and showman James Randi, and astronomer and writer Professor Carl Sagan.

It’s harvest time for crop-circle hype
Fans of the formations and ‘circle-makers’ have their day in the sun
ad info Crop circles spread over a wheat field in rural Perquimans County, N.C., on June 12, 1997. Circle-makers have taken much of the mystery out of such formations, but true believers try to keep the legends alive. By Alan Boyle Science editor msnbc.com msnbc.com You’d think a professional crop-circle chronicler like Colin Andrews would be absolutely ecstatic: Three films about crop circles are coming out this year, including “Signs,” the subject of Hollywood hype and magazine cover stories. But Andrews is actually worried ... worried that all this hype will bring less respectful amateurs into the, um, field. On the other hand, crop-circle makers like John Lundberg are thrilled. The three films — the big-budget, big-name “Signs,” the low-budget independent film “A Place to Stay” (for which Andrews was chief consultant) and the documentary “Crop Circles: Quest for Truth” — have boosted the hype quotient for what has already been a bumper year for crop formations in England, the epicenter of the phenomenon.
