ECOTOX
ECOTOX is a comprehensive database, which provides information on adverse effects of single chemical stressors to ecologically relevant aquatic and terrestrial species. ECOTOX includes more than 400,000 test records covering 5,900 aquatic and terrestrial species and 8,400 chemicals. The primary source of ECOTOX data is the peer-reviewed literature, with test results identified through comprehensive searches of the open literature. All pertinent information on the species, chemical, test methods, and results presented by the authors are abstracted into the ECOTOX database. ECOTOX also includes third-party data collections from the EPA, U.S. Geological Survey, Russia, and OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development) member nations summarizing research that is either published in non-English journals or not available in the open literature. ECOTOX is available on EPA's public web page at www.epa.gov/ecotox

Aims and scope
The SETAC Advisory Group AMEG (Aquatic Macrophyte Ecotoxicology Group) was established in June 2009 to provide guidance on all aspects of aquatic macrophyte testing in the laboratory and field as well as the use of macrophyte data in the risk assessment of chemicals. The group will accomplish these goals by being a forum for communication, co-operation, scientific discussion and collaboration between scientists in academia, business and government. Within AMEG, we consider aquatic macrophytes to be all freshwater higher plants (including emergent, floating-leaved, free-floating and submerged forms or hydrophytes, amphiphytes and helophytes) but also macro-algae like Chara and salt-water plants like sea-grasses and other macroalgae like brown algae.
Objectives
The objectives of AMEG are to provide: Scientific advice
  • to provide a scientific basis for aquatic macrophyte testing and risk assessment including plant protection products, biocides and chemicals in general (e.g. EU, US and Canadian directives) to provide a scientific basis for the use of aquatic macrophyte data in retrospective risk assessment (e.g. European Water Framework Directive and USA Clean Water Act)

Although there is now a wealth of data on amphibian ecotoxicology, these data pertain to a relatively narrow range of taxa and ecological types. The atypical aquatic pipid Xenopus and temperate ranids and bufonids that have the common reproductive strategy of aquatic eggs and larvae account for a large percentage of the available information (Rowe et al., 2003). The Leptodactylidae, the largest family of anurans, have been neglected: McDiarmid and Mitchell (2000) list no leptodactylids among species that have been used in tests to evaluate water quality criteria chemicals, compared with 12 species of Bufo and 16 of Rana Leptodactylids are also of interest in having diverse reproductive modes including aquatic and terrestrial foam nests and direct terrestrial development, and in being an important component of the fauna of the Neotropics, an area of particular conservation concern for amphibians (Young et al., 2004).
