Partial Tuition Waiver
A partial tuition waiver is available to students currently enrolled full-time in their first undergraduate degree program at a four-year public university in the United States who wish to enroll in either the Study Abroad Program or the full-time intensive Arabic program of the Arabic Language Institute. The waiver assumes that the out-of-state (non-resident) tuition rate is lower than AUC's tuition rate and equals the difference between the two tuition rates. AUC must receive an official letter from the state university bursar or other responsible financial officer confirming the college's out-of-state tuition rate for the same period the student will be attending AUC. The waiver of the tuition difference is applicable only to undergraduate study abroad for a maximum of two semesters. It does not apply to summer or winter sessions, part-time study or study toward an AUC degree. Simpson Scholarship in Egyptology
The Simpson Scholarship consists of an award of $2500 for one semester of full-time, non-degree undergraduate study in the Study Abroad Program at AUC. Interested students may apply for either:

Select a Resource Bibliography Glossary Egyptian Timeline Becoming an Egyptologist Links Becoming an Egyptologist
Many visitors to our website dream of becoming Egyptologists and are seeking information on the education required for such a career. We have compiled information regarding the general educational requirements for a career in Egyptology (especially geared toward the American educational system), as well as a list of links to universities around the globe offering academic programs in Egyptology.
What to Study Most full-time Egyptological jobs require that you have a Ph.D. in Egyptology, or be well on your way toward obtaining one. Training in Egyptology for a doctoral degree can take at least eight years of university, both undergraduate and graduate programs, and often much longer. Many university programs offer the opportunity to specialize either in Egyptian language or in art and archaeology of ancient Egypt. If you are studying at a university that allows you to specialize either in archaeology or Egyptian language you should take some courses in both fields regardless of the field in which you ultimately decide to specialize.
For high school students interested in becoming Egyptologists, you should learn French and German if available, take history and other humanities classes, and get a good grounding in sciences, computing, and courses to improve your writing and research skills, in short, take all the college prep courses you can. This will depend a great deal on what is available in your local high school system. Read all that you can get on various aspects of ancient Egypt and the ancient Near East, including history, archaeology, art, religion and literature.

THE TOMB of NIANKHKHNUM and KHNUMHOTEP illustration from photograph 1999 Greg Reeder In 1964 in the ancient necropolis of Saqqara, Egyptian archaeologist Ahmed Moussa discovered
a series of tombs with rock-cut passages in the escarpment facing the causeway that lead to the pyramid of Unas. Soon after the Chief Inspector Mounir Basta reported crawling on his hands and knees through the passages, entering one of the Old Kingdom tombs. He was impressed with its unique scenes of two men in intimate embrace, something he had never seen before in all the Saqqara tombs. Meanwhile archaeologists working on the restoration of the causeway of Unas discovered that some of the stone blocks that had been used to build the causeway had been appropriated in ancient times from the mastaba that had originally served as the entrance to this newly discovered tomb. The archaeologists reconstructed the mastaba using the inscribed blocks found in the substructure of the causeway. It was revealed that this unique tomb had been built for two men to cohabit and that both shared identical titles in the palace of King Niuserre of the Fifth Dynasty: "OVERSEER OF THE MANICURISTS IN THE PALACE OF THE KING."
