Differential equations are the main way in which mathematical models of real systems are constructed, and understanding their behavior is the main contribution a mathematician can make to applications. I am interested in understanding the behavior of differential equations and their close relatives: iterative systems. In particular, I try to see how such systems behave in the complex domain, largely because complex analysis brings new and powerful techniques to bear on the problems. The availability of powerful computers and computer graphics has changed the way this sort of research is done. In the course of investigations of even such simple iterative systems as quadratic polynomials, amazing pictures show up, rather as artifacts to be investigated than as man-made objects. I anticipate that this sort of experimental mathematics will become a major trend.

Used to identify parameters in explicit model functions, dynamic systems of equations (steady-state), Laplace transforms, ordinary differential equations, differential algebraic equations and one-dimensional partial differential equations. Proceeding from given experimental data. For example, observation times and measurements, the minimum least squares distances of measured data from a fitting criterion are computed, that may depend on the solution of the dynamic system.

Proceeding from given experimental data, i.e., observation times and measurements, the minimum least squares distances of measu re d da ta from a fitting criterion are computed, which depends on the solution of the dynamic system. Various types of one-dimensional partial differential equations are permitted, also hyperbolic ones describing shock waves. Advection, diffusion, transport, or related equations can be solved successfully by non-oscillatory discretization schemes, even with non-continuous initial or boundary conditions. A statistical analysis provides confidence intervals for estimated parameters, correlation and covariance matrix, identification of significance levels for estimated parameters, and optimum experimental design. As a by-product, curve and surface fits are available. The software runs under MS-Windows Vista or XP, and a version for Windows 2K or earlier is available on request. • Overview
The equation is said to be homogeneous if P and Q are homogeneous functions of x and y of the same degree. We can test to see whether this first order equation is homogeneous by substituting . If the result is in the form f(v)i.e. all the x's are canceled then the test is satisfied and the equation is Homogeneous. Example 1:
There are no terms in x on the right hand side and the equation is Homogereous.
    Example 2:
So the original equation is not homogeneous.
    Methods Of Solution.
A solution can be found by putting y = vx on both sides of the equation:- Example 3:
Putting y - vx Since y is a function of x so is v Separating the variables Integrating Substituting (12) in equation (10)

Expert: Brad Wild - 9/6/2004 Question How would you find the half life of a radioactive substance of specific decay rate k. (The period it takes for 50% of the substance to decay.) The general solution is dx/dt = -kx and x(t) = ce^(-kt). I think the half life only depends on k not the amount given, but I'm not sure how to show this.
