Filed under Animals Court arrests could be made for behavioral charges on ethological basis. Animal rights activists are demanding court arrests for mistreating animals and to make charges on the basis of ethological needs. Such laws a lready exist in many countries and the prosecutor could be sentenced. For instance, recently an English farmer was charged with £150 for keeping his cow in dark and cold. The judge charged him with the fine as his act was against the ethological laws of the local community. The judge fined him as he kept the animal in a dark, closed room where there was no natural light and no electric lights and the judge said that by doing so he went against the laws defined by Animal Welfare Act. What is Ethology anyway? Animal Welfare Act is based upon many elements including Ethology. Ethology is a scientific study of animal behavior. Ethology is a sub-topic of Zoology which is a branch of science based on the biological study of animals. Human desire to understand animal has made ethology an important subject. It started in 1930 and since then the subject has grown rapidly. Ethology has been divided into further subjects of study such as animal emotions, behavioral study of animals (non-human), and animal psychology. An enormous amount of research papers have already been published related to these subjects while more research and learning is in process.

Using the concepts of evolution as a unifying theme, the major represents a unique interdisciplinary synthesis of the fields of Neuroscience and Behavior and provides a breadth and focus not found in traditional Biology, Psychology, Biopsychology, Neuroscience, or Anthropology programs. "These traditional disciplines ask similar questions about brain and behavior, but often from different points of view," says Paul Lennard, director of the NBB program. About the Department of Animal Biology
Although the name Department of Animal Biology is relatively new, this area of biology has a long tradition of excellence at the University of Illinois. Victor E. Shelford, a faculty member in the Department of Zoology from 1914 to 1947, was instrumental in the development of the field of animal ecology in North America. His emphasis on empirical studies in both academic and research programs has continued to the present. The School of Integrative Biology focuses on an integrative approach to fundamental problems that can make a significant contribution to the solution of outstanding scientific and societal problems. As part of that School, the Department of Animal Biology's faculty teach and conduct research in
