pdnMesh
pdnMesh is an automatic mesh generator and solver for Finite Element problems. It will also do post-processing to generate contour plots and Postscript printouts. GUI support using GTK or MFC (Win32) is available. The problem definition can be done in any form and given to pdnMesh as an input data file. Drawing Exchange Format (DXF) files can be directly imported to pdnmesh. The quality and the coarseness of the mesh can be controlled by giving input parameters. ThermoAnalytics Software
RadTherm is full-featured, cross-platform, heat transfer analysis software for system-level CAE applications. RadTherm utilizes a state-of-the-art Radiation Module and an extremely user friendly Graphical User Interface to set up boundary conditions for multi-mode heat transfer: multibounce radiation, conduction and convection with one-dimensional fluid flow. RadTherm has no limit to heat transfer model resolution: model size is limited only by available system resources. Customers report modeling systems of several million thermal nodes. Heat transfer boundary conditions for natural environments are easily imported from weather files and solar loads predicted from RadTherm's built-in solar model or applied from measurements. Examples of RadTherm applications would be complete vehicular systems, aerospace systems, electronic instrument panels, architectural solar analysis, and complex process heating schemes. http://www.mech.kth.se/~gustava/femLego
Numerical simulation by symbolic computation
femLego is a set of Maple procedures and fortran subroutines that can be used to build complete fortran simulation codes for partial differential equations, with the entire problem definition done in Maple. It is intended mainly for time dependent systems, and in the present version sets up a time loop where the equations in the system are solved one after another in a split manner. Spatial discretizations are done as the standard finite element method on unstructured grids. The finite elements are specified as symbolic code in a few pages of Maple procedures. Some common 1D, 2D and 3D elements are provided.
The philosophy has been to eliminate as much hand coded fortran as possible, and have Maple do all the work in going from a formal description of a variational formulation, to a running program.
A recent talk on this can be viewed here (pdf).
An account of the strategy, with a set of examples of how the tools can be used is published in the paper:
Mathematics and Computers in Simulation , vol 49, pp. 149-165.

http://sierravistatech.com
Specialty Software for Engineering Design and Manufacture Company Objective Sierra Vista Technology, LLC is dedicated to building specialty software for use in designing engineering products and developing manufacturing processes. A software product can be economically constructed to solve a unique design problem or to design a manufacturing process. The software can then be effectively maintained and modified. Tailored nonlinear solution algorithms, special material models and boundary conditions can be programmed to satisfy customer requirements. Examples of specialty products include metal heat treatment, welding, forging, glass to metal seals, and solder fatigue. Company Capability Many products and manufacturing processes are now designed with large general purpose finite element programs. Often these programs do not have the specific capabilities needed to effectively solve the problem and large software companies cannot respond in a timely manor to add flexibility to their product. Also, many large commercial products rely on one nonlinear solution algorithm which may not be the best choice for a particular application. Adding customization to such general purpose programs is expensive, a slow process and difficult to maintain. Sierra Vista Technology, LLC constructs software with greater quality at a lower license cost with a coupled mechanics object oriented mechanics library. The program is capable of solving the unique problem with less computer resources than a general purpose code. A graphical user interface can easily be modified to support a new product and faster solutions are available with the use of parallel processing.

CALCULIX
A Free Software Three-Dimensional Structural Finite Element Program
Version 2.2 is available
Last updated: 1. August 2010 CalculiX is a package designed to solve field problems. The method used is the finite element method. With CalculiX Finite Element Models can be build, calculated and post-processed. The pre- and post-processor is an interactive 3D-tool using the openGL API. The solver is able to do linear and non-linear calculations. Static, dynamic and thermal solutions are available. Both programs can be used independently. Because the solver makes use of the abaqus input format it is possible to use commercial pre-processors as well. In turn the pre-processor is able to write mesh related data for nastran, abaqus, ansys, code-aster and for the free-cfd codes duns, ISAAC and OpenFOAM. A vda CAD interface is available. The program is designed to run on Unix platforms like Linux and Irix computers but also on MS-Windows. The CalculiX package was developed by a team of enthusiasts in their raw spare time. They are employees of MTU Munich, an Aero Engine manufacturer in Germany which granted the publication. CalculiX FE-Model of a jet engine with turbo-charger compressor (blue) and turbine (red).
