Chinese Academy of Fishery Science (CAFS)
Chinese Academy of Fishery Science (CAFS), subordinated directly to the Ministry of Agriculture, is a leading research institution in China, involved in almost all research fields, for both marine and freshwater, in fishery industry, including fishery resource survey and enhancement, aquaculture, fishing, fishery product processing, fishery machinery, fishery environment protection, fishery engineering, fishery economics study and fishery information. Since its foundation in 1978, CAFS has performed over 1,000 studies, of which more than 250 were awarded by the state or the ministries. The most outstanding research results such as Industrial breeding on Peneaus chinensis and Haemorrhage disease control of grass carp, which won the First Prize of National Scientific and Technological Progress, have specially contributed to China's aquaculture development in the last decades. The other research results are also of great significance either academically or economically. CAFS , with its headquarters in Beijing, has 21 related institutions of various disciplines spread over different parts of china and a total of 1590 scientists, including 1 academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, 51 research fellows and 340 associate research fellows.

Located near Ingram, Heart of the Hills is home to the Research Section of TPWD's Inland Fisheries Division. Our research improves fisheries management and explores what is not yet known about fish, their environment, and current and potential anglers. In addition to conducting independent applied fisheries research, we provide guidance and support for projects conducted by our fisheries managers and our hatcheries staff.
From this center, we conduct scientific investigations and provide support and advice to: Maintain and enhance sport fisheries Identify and recruit new users of fisheries resources Refine sampling techniques and data analysis Determine habitat requirements, limiting factors, and enhancement techniques for fish communities

A fishery (plural: fisheries) is an organized effort by humans to catch fish or other aquatic species, an activity known as fishing . Generally, a fishery exists for the purpose of providing human food , although other aims are possible (such as sport or recreational fishing), or obtaining ornamental fish or fish products such as fish oil Industrial fisheries are fisheries where the catch is not intended for direct human consumption (Castro and Huber 2003).
The fishing effort is generally centered on either a particular ecoregion or a particular species or type of fish or aquatic animal, and usually fisheries are differentiated by both criteria. Examples would be the salmon fishery of Alaska , the cod fishery off the Lofoten islands or the tuna fishery of the Eastern Pacific . Most fisheries are marine , rather than freshwater ; most marine fisheries are based near the coast . This is not only because harvesting from relatively shallow waters is easier than in the open ocean, but also because fish are much more abundant near the

The Fisheries Behavioral Ecology Program , which is part of the RACE Division , of the Alaska Fisheries Science Cente r, conducts experimental research directed toward understanding the role that behavior plays in regulating distribution, abundance, growth and survival of fish species and their interactions with fishing methods and gear. The goal of the program is to provide the critical information needed to improve survey techniques, to improve predictions on population abundance and survival, and to conserve populations of economically significant marine resource species and their habitats.

Fisheries Science INTRODUCTION

Fishing is one of the oldest professions known to man. Over time fishing has progressed from an artisan occupation to one of significant commercial importance. The discipline of fishery science was first recognized more than a century ago as scientists became involved with improving our use of living aquatic resources, protecting waters in which these resources live and/or improving the practice of aquaculture. It is a multidisciplinary science, which draws on the disciplines of oceanography, marine biology, marine conservation, ecology, population dynamics, economics and management to attempt to provide an integrated picture of fisheries. However, it is also involved with developing and improving fishing gears and operations with an aim to increasing the sustainability, efficiency and profitability of the fishery. It also investigates ways to improve technology and processing techniques in order to maximize the quality of fish landings and fish products.
Fisheries Science Services carries out fisheries surveys in the waters which collect extensive data for both national and international stock assessments of the main commercial species of fish and shellfish. There is a huge range of marine living resources from sea cucumbers to large whales. In addition there are many species yet to be discovered, particularly in the deepest waters.
