Geology The ROSS SEA DEPENDENCY including VICTORIA-LAND A great many names have been applied not only geographically but also to purely local rock formations and the descriptions are often far from adequate. My own hands on (hammer on?) experience is limited to the Cape Hallet region, the Mawson Glacier to Mulock Inlet sector and the Shackleton (or Nimrod) Glacier to the Beardmore. For the rest we have to rely on other accounts. The man to whom we owe most of our knowledge of the depth and volume of the Antarctic ice sheet is Dr Albert Crary, known to his friends and admirers as "Bloody Bert". For years he crisscrossed the continent on seismic traverses, but I do not know of any features named for him, except perhaps the "Crary Laboratory" in Mac Town, and an obscure nunatak. The committee for Geographic Place Names includes a "Crary" range in Marie Byrd Land which includes at least one volcano, which are already given several names. The worst thing about history is that we have to live with it. The Geology of Victoria Land at a Single Glance.

Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming SOILS FLUVIAL GEOMORPHOLOGY . The streams within Grand Teton National Park drain a recently glaciated and tectonically unstable region. Fluvial geomorphic processes are dominated by mountain building forces and the glacial legacy, resulting in streams that are inherently dynamic because they must continually adjust to changing gradients, sediment supplies, and other factors that control stream "stability". . Stream reaches within Jackson Hole, predominantly contain gravel and cobble bedloads, with sand and silt intermixed or deposited in areas of slower velocities.

Denver Day (GSA 2010 Annual Meeting)
Saturday October 30, 2010 Denver is clear and breezy. I've only been here a couple of times, but today the Front Range looked the best I've ever seen. Before I settled down to an evening of choosing from the banquet of presentations at the meeting (which starts tomorrow and lasts four days), I uncramped my legs with a walk to the Dinosaur Tracks Museum a little west of the Convention Center. Part of the University of Colorado at Denver, the museum is temporarily off the Web, but this notice from the 2007 GSA meeting shows where it is. It has fossil tracks, both real specimens and research-grade casts, from as far back as the Permian (tracks of scorpions, insects and amphibians) and as recent as Holocene (human footprints), but the meat of the show is the Mesozoic dinosaurs and their relatives whose tracks are known all over the West, including nearby

Geology is everywhere you look, under your feet, on the roof tops and even in your paper and toothpaste. The Trust works with the Cornwall RIGS (Regionally Important Geological/Geomorphological Sites) Group to protect important geological sites and inspire people about Cornwall's exciting geological heritage.
The Cornwall RIGS Group is the geological arm of the Trust, concerned with geology and geomorphology. If you would like to get closer to Cornwall's geology you can: Important geological sites can sometimes be threatened by such things as development proposals or coastal defence schemes. Designation as a County Geology Site can help in the conservation of these sites. The publication of the Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly Geodiversity Action Plan has provided much needed guidance for the future of earth science conservation in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

S S Exploration welcomes you to the geological world of India. The study of geology is of paramount importance for the exploration and allied activities in the field of ground water. We have tried to show a brief picture of Geology of India below for you. The general geological information is useful from Ground water point of view. However, for detailed analysis and understanding we request you to mail us at info@hydroexplore.com
Geology of India is as diverse as its geography and people. It contains rocks covering almost the entire spectrum of the Geological Time Scale. It has rocks severely deformed and metamorphosed as well as recently deposited alluvium which are yet to experience diagenesis. Even the fossil record is extremely diverse and includes the earliest stromatolites, invertebrates, vertebrates and plant fossils. Rock type and mineral deposits of many varieties can be found in this country. Legend Recent- Quaternary Tertiary Paleocene- Cretaceous Mesozoic Gondwana Early Palaeozoic

Geology is the study of soil and rocks . The people that study geology are called geologists . By studying the soil and rocks that the Earth's surface is made of, Geologists can learn more about the history of the Earth Some of the important events (things that happen) in the Earth's history are floods volcanic eruptions earthquakes orogeny (mountain building), and plate tectonics (movement of continents ). Some Geologists study soil and rocks to find minerals , like metals and oil , which are underground. Geology is divided into smaller subjects that just study one part of Geology. Some of these subjects are:
    • Petrology - the study of rocks how they form and where they are from. Mineralogy - the study of minerals Stratigraphy - the study of layered sedimentary rocks and how they were deposited. Structural geology - the study of folds and faults and how mountains are formed by uplift. Geomorphology - the study of the shape (=morphology) of the surface of the Earth and the formation of soil from rock.
