Solubility Testing
This firm has developed new methods for determining the solubility of uranium and transuranics on breathing zone air samples. The new method has improved sensitivity and significantly reduced the cost to perform the analysis. The new method is described in the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission NUREG/CR-6419. The method was used to determine the uranium solubility profiles through each stage of an operating uranium plant and improve their internal dosimetry results. The cost for this analysis ranges from $8,000 to $10,000 for ten breathing zone air samples taken in the plant or facility where airborne radionuclides need to be characterized.
Sealed Source Leak Checks
The state of Arizona, as well as many other states, require all sealed sources with activities greater than 100 microcuries to be checked for leakage. The frequency of the leak checks are stated in each facility's radioactive materials license. Typical schedules are biannually, annually or every three years. Sealed sources must be reported if the leakage exceeds 0.005 microcuries. The counting facility at Radiation Safety Engineering has the ability to detect much lower level of radiation, making it an ideal choice for all leak checking needs. Call or send an email to obtain a leak check kit. Please include name, company, address, etc., as well as the type of source and frequency of check.

The first is a collaboration with faculty at the University of Florida. The primary goal in this research is to construct a detailed and comprehensive reference skeletal model for the adult male and female using cadavers of nominal body mass index and an age representative of radionuclide therapy patients. Microstructural images of trabecular bone regions of these cadavers are acquired using Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) techniques. Monte Carlo transport codes are used to simulate transport of electrons through these regions in order to calculate absorbed fractions. My second research project is the Development of Dose Coefficients for Radionulides Produced in Spallation Neutron Sources. This project is comprised a research consortium comprised of two UNLV graduate students, representatives from several universities and national laboratories.

    Nuclear Reactors
are apparatus in which nuclear fission may be sustained in a self-supporting chain reaction. A reactor includes fissionable material (fuel) such as uranium or plutonium, and moderating material (except fast reactors), and usually includes a reflector to conserve escaping neutrons, provision for heat removal, and measuring and control elements. The terms "pile" and "reactor" have been used inter-changeably, with reactor now becoming more common. These terms usually are applied only to systems in which the reaction proceeds at a controlled rate, but they have also been applied to bombs.
