  • How to Land a Helicopter One of the greatest conveniences of flying a helicopter is the ability to land nearly anywhere. Unlike airplanes, helicopters do not need a runway or a significant amount of space to land. However, landing a helicopter does take intense focusing, control and awareness of your surroundings. How to Fly Helicopters Helicopters are one of the most difficult aircrafts you can fly. Flying a helicopter is unlike flying a conventional aircraft as it requires a completely different set of skills. It is extremely important to remain clam and focused while controlling the three main controls of the helicopter. How to Fly an R/C Helicopter Flying an R/C helicopter can be a daunting task when first learning. The combination of controlling the height, direction and tilt to get your helicopter from point A to point B can be confusing. Using a coaxial R/C helicopter can remove some of that confusion thanks to a simpler design that increases helicopter stability, increasing... How to Hire a Helicopter About RC Helicopters RC helicopters, also known as radio-controlled helicopters, are model aircrafts that come in varying styles and designs. E-Sky Lama V4 Micro Helicopter + Battery Set Posted by: dinball on Tuesday, August 19, 2008 - 04:03 PM 3471 Reads E-SKY LAMA V4 is an entry-level EP helicopter, and it is probably the best choice for beginners!! Extra stable and easy to fly. With the new Lama V4 you get a completely assembled and ready to fly micro heli with a coaxial counter-rotating head design that is so stable almost any first-time flyer can be hovering like a pro in no time. The Lama V4 offers things other similarly designed micro helis can't – the power and precision of ESKY 8g servos, an advanced 4-in-1 controller, and a great looking, lightweight body that really stands out. The LamaV4 features counter-rotating main blades that cancel out the rotational torque that makes hovering a challenge in conventional helis. They also make rudder turns much easier by slowing down one or the other blade without affecting the stability of the aircraft. This is truly a helicopter that most anyone can fly and beyond your dream.

Helicopters
Helicopters also known as choppers, are use extensively in defense services. They are highly efficient mode of transport in mountainous terrain. Helicopters achieve lift and propulsion from one or more powered propellers, or rotors, that rotate in a horizontal plane. The rotors allow the aircraft to remain motionless in hovering flight and to move by a tilt forward in the desired direction. Originally believed to have evolved from designs created by Leonardo da Vinci in 1483, the helicopter was refined by Igor Sikorsky in the United States between 1936 and 1941 as a single rotor-propelled aircraft. It was subsequently utilized as an airborne means of transporting cargo and executing various commercial and military activities. This section showcases helicopters and rotorcrafts. LOOKING FOR A FUN AND REWARDING
HOBBY?
START FLYING RC HELICOPTERS!
Why would you want to take up RC helicopters as a hobby? Two words come to mind - "FUN" and "REWARDING" - that is after all what most of us are looking for in a hobby.
I have been flying radio controlled helicopters (RC helicopters) for over 20 years now, and have seen huge advances in this fun hobby over those years. There simply has never been a better time to start flying radio controlled helicopters then right now. Unlike most RC airplanes, radio controlled helicopters don't require a large mowed or paved runway; they take-off vertically so any open area will do. At the other end of the spectrum are small electric indoor RC helicopters that you can fly in your own home or at the office. Add in the amazing fun factor and it is easy to see why RC helicopters are showing the strongest growth among all the various forms of RC hobbies. I built and maintain RC Helicopter Fun.com to help answer many common questions related to this relatively "technical hobby". From toy to turbine - information, advice, tips, recommendations, and guidance to help you succeed.

Helicopters A helicopter is an aircraft that can take off and land vertically. Also called a "rotary aircraft," it can hover and rotate in the air and can move sideways and backwards while aloft. It can change direction very quickly and can stop moving completely and begin hovering. A helicopter flies by means of the thrust that is created by the rotation of the blades of a main rotor that is mounted on a shaft above the fuselage, or body, of the aircraft. As the blades rotate, an airflow is created over them, resulting in lift. This raises the helicopter. A pilot maneuvers the helicopter by changing the pitch, or angle, of the rotor blades as they move through the air. An engine is used to create the force needed to lift the aircraft and its passengers and cargo. Reciprocating gasoline and gas turbine engines are the most common types used on helicopters. The Sikorsky CH-3E helicopter Credits - U.S Air Force All helicopters need a way to counteract the torque produced by the main rotor. If this were not done, the rotor would turn in one direction, and the fuselage would turn in the opposite direction. Usually, a small tail rotor is used to produce a sideways thrust that prevents the fuselage from rotating. By increasing or decreasing the thrust produced by the tail rotor, the pilot can steer the helicopter to the left or right. Another way to counteract thrust is with two main rotors that turn in opposite, or counter-rotating, directions. Each rotor cancels the torque produced by the other. No tail rotor is needed in this type of helicopter.

Back Helicopters come in many different sizes and can perform many different tasks. Although we see helicopters being used by the news stations and police departments, they are also used today by the United States Army. The helicopters that we see every day are very small compared to those that are used in the Army. It is their ability to fly vertically that makes them different from other aircraft. The Invention of the Helicopter Of all the amazing things about helicopters, one of the most amazing is that it was invented by a kid! Igor Sikorsky thought of the idea and made models of helicopters when he was still in grade school in Russia. Igor was known throughout Russia and the world for designing and flying the first multi-engine airplane. Igor came to the United States during the Russian Revolution to continue his work with aircraft. He built airplanes that set many records for how fast they could fly, how far they could fly, and how much of a payload they could carry. After many successes, Igor began to work on the helicopter again and got his first patent for one in 1931. Finally in 1939, Igor began building his first helicopter. It was finished and was flown on September 14, 1939. Benefits of Helicopters A helicopter can perform many things that airplanes cannot. They have a big advantage over an airplane, especially when people might be trapped in a tight place like on a mountain where there is not a lot of space to land or on the water. They are also used for rescuing people from burning buildings, from trees when there are floods, or lifting them off of the decks of sinking ships. The reason that the helicopter can do these tasks better than an airplane is because helicopters can take off and land vertically instead of needing to go horizontally and have the room to take off. Unlike airplanes, helicopters are able to hover. Being able to hover allows them to rescue people easier. Without the helicopter as a rescue vehicle, many people would lose their lives because the rescuers would be unable to reach them if they were in a difficult area. Helicopters are also used by news stations which allows them to report the news and traffic as it’s happening.

    Helicopters
By Zach A helicopter is a type of aircraft that uses spinning blades called rotors to fly. A rotor is a huge propeller that is pointed straight up into the air. Torque is when the rotors are spinning fast and the main body of the helicopter wants to spin the other direction. The most basic solution to torque is a small rotor on the back of the helicopter called the tail rotor. This small rotor spins and pushes the body of the helicopter in a direction opposite of the torque. Another solution is tandem rotors. In this approach there are two large rotors and they e ach spin in a different direction. This allows the torque of the two rotors to equal each other out. Either of these approaches allows the helicopter to fly straight. When on the ground, helicopters rest on either wheels or skids. Skids are mostly used because they weigh less than wheels. On big helicopters wheels are used and not skids. Why? Guess. Why do you think that on bigger helicopters wheels are used instead of skids? Most helicopters can fly about 200 to 350 miles per hour or 322 to 563 kilometers per hour. The farthest most helicopters can travel on one tank of fuel is 600 miles or 966 kilometers.
