    Herpetology
The Southeast Amphibian Research and Monitoring Initiative (SE ARMI) at USGS - Gainesville has conducted research on reptiles and amphibians in the Southeastern United States and Caribbean over the last 30 years. The project began with studies that assessed status and distribution of amphibians and reptiles in threatened Florida biotic communities. Since then, our research has expanded to focus on the life histories, diversity, and importance of amphibians and reptiles in a wide variety of Southeastern and Caribbean ecosystems.

Welcome to the ACT Herpetological Association's Website!
Herpetology is the branch of zoology concerned with reptiles and amphibians. Established in 1985, the ACT Herpetological Association aims to promote the study and conservation of reptiles and amphibians, and to foster a positive community attitude toward this misunderstood group of animals. Our members encompass a broad cross-section of the community. Amateur and professional herpetologists are joined by interested members of the public in learning more about our local frogs, snakes, lizards and turtles, as well as other herpetofauna from Australia and around the world. The Association organises regular bi-monthly meetings with very interesting guest speakers and holds displays at local community events such as the Tidbinbilla Extravaganza and Hawker Primary Fete. The Association also arranges irregular excursions and members can get involved in some volunteer herpetological research. ACTHA runs the large and succesful Snakes Alive! event every year in January in collaboration with the Australian National Botanic Gardens. Snakes Alive! is a great place to see and interact with reptiles and amphibians while learning about their natural history.

About the Alabama Herpetological Atlas Project The Alabama Herp Atlas doubles as an effective conservation and education tool. Annual summaries of the findings of the volunteers are produced in the newsletter, which provides baseline data for further research, contributes to an awareness of issues relating to declining amphibian populations, supplies data to organizations charged with the conservation of amphibians and reptiles, and perhaps most importantly, contributes to an increasing public awareness of the importance of amphibians and reptiles to a healthy environment.

T he Tucson Herpetological Society is a registered non-profit organization dedicated to conservation, education and research concerning the amphibians and reptiles of Arizona and Mexico. It started as a result of a meeting, on December 29, 1987, of a group of individuals with a common interest in herpetology. This group, Please download Java(tm) comprised of Steve Hale, Dave Hardy, Sr., Dave Hyatt, Jim Jarchow, Marcia Lincoln, Hugh McCrystal, Howard Lawler and Frank Retes, decided to establish a local herpetological society in Tucson. The initial goal was to hold monthly meetings with presentations on reptiles and amphibians. The first such meeting was held in January, 1988. Since then THS has become incorporated as a non-profit organization, published a monthly newsletter journal, opened a student chapter based on the University of Arizona campus, and has deve-
loped a range of educational out-
reach programs and publications.
