The Hydrologic Index Tool (HIT) is available for batch processing of multiple USGS gauge records to compute the 171 hydroecological indices for specified periods of record. If you have daily and peak (optional) streamflow data for a period of record, you can use NATHAT to 1. establish a hydrologic baseline (reference time period), 2. establish environmental flow standards, and 3. evaluate past and proposed hydrologic modifications. Six stream classes are available in NATHAT. However, a national stream classification tool is not available. Therefore, the user must make an informed decision as to which stream type is being examined using the information in articles by

We are a consulting firm committed to resolving clients' environmental challenges using site-specific information, modeling, and restoration design concepts unique for the site. Balance Hydrologics partners to restore fish passage. EPA's new Hydrogeomorphic Method manual for vernal pools of Southern California In 2009, Balance Hydrologics partnered with the USFWS and local ranchers in the Upper Klamath Basin to restore fish passage to several miles of pristine habitat along Five-Mile Creek. The project is showcased on the USGS Multimedia Gallery. We encourage you to spend a few minutes to check it out. Balance Hydrologics staff co-authored EPA's new Hydrogeomorphic Method manual for vernal pools of Southern California, working with researchers at SDSU and USD. The manual serves as the preferred federal method for quantifying vernal pool functions. It can be applied to evaluating the quality of pools, developing management programs, measuring damage and quantifying the effectiveness of restoration. ( HTML PDF

HydroLogics, Inc., is the worldwide water resources management consulting firm that the experts come to when they need help in water resources management. Solutions Water purveyors, municipalities, industries, agriculturalists, and environmentalists often have extremely divergent goals for the use of precious water resources. When these goals collide, the situation often appears chaotic. We help bring order out of this chaos, assisting these different interests in arriving at mutually agreeable solutions, despite divergent goals — and often "finding" more water in existing water systems in the process. Specialties HydroLogics specializes in water systems analysis operations planning hydropower conflict resolution using our Computer-Aided Dispute Resolution services, and water marketing OASIS, Simulation Software HydroLogics is also a leader in the development of analytical tools. Our simulation software, OASIS , (Operational Analysis and Simulation of Integrated Systems) with OCL This easy-to-learn software utilizes our patented logic routines to identify the best possible set of solutions to complex, multi-objective problems and is just one of the reasons why we consistently achieve agreeable, workable solutions in a timely, cost-effective manner. FORT Science FORT Science Home Science Features Science Priorities Current Research Find FORT Science by [SELECT AN OPTION] Topic State/Country Species Managing rivers and streams to maintain healthy aquatic ecosystems is a challenge for resource managers across the country. Demand for competing uses of water resources grows with escalating development, increasing recreational use, and the vagaries of climate and weather. For many species of concern, instream flow and associated water quality is critical for survival. Balancing these ecosystem needs with proposed changes in flow regimes requires a process managers can use to classify streams and determine the ecological and hydrological impacts of changes in streamflow. Figure 1. Steps taken to develop and apply the regional Hydroecological Integrity Assessment Process (HIP). The HIP is intended for use by any federal or state agency, institution, private firm, or nongovernmental entity that has responsibility for or interest in managing and/or regulating streams to restore or maintain ecological integrity. In addition, the HIP can assist researchers by identifying ecologically relevant, stream-class-specific hydrologic indices that adequately characterize the 5 major components of the flow regime (magnitude, frequency, duration, timing, and rate of change) by using 10 nonredundant indices. The process is developed at a state or other large geographical-area scale but is applied at the stream-reach level (Figure 1).

92. WATERS OF ROME: Hydraulic Infrastructure/aqueducts/fountains/sewers
Cartographic history of the relationship between hydrological and hydraulic systems and their impact on the urban development of Rome. Examines the intersection between natural hydrological elements and constructed hydraulic elements such as aqueducts, fountains, and sewers.
http://www.iath.virginia.edu/waters/
Aquae Urbis Romae is an interactive cartographic history of the relationships between hydrological and hydraulic systems and their impact on the urban development of Rome, Italy. Our study begins in 753 BC and will ultimately extend to the present day. Aquae Urbis Romae examines the intersections between natural hydrological elements such as springs, rain, streams, marshes, and the Tiber River, and constructed hydraulic elements such as aqueducts, fountains, sewers, bridges, conduits, etc., that together create the water infrastructure system of Rome. The long term goals of this project are to increase understanding of the profound relationships that exist between water systems and urbanism in Rome, and by its example, in all cities, landscapes, and environments. It is hoped that this study will foster work by other scholars and designers who are interested in exploring the ways in which water infrastructure can be exploited toward the future development of humane, ecologically responsible, and engaging civic environments.
