Welcome
Permaculture works with nature to make a better world for all. By observing the natural world we can see a set of principles at work. Permaculture design uses these principles to develop integrated systems that provide for our needs of food, shelter, energy and community in ways that are healthy and efficient. We can use permaculture design methods to improve the quality and productivity of our individual lives, our society and our environment. The Permaculture Association is the national charity that supports people to learn about and use permaculture. With alcohol fuel, you can become energy independent, reverse global warming, and survive Peak Oil in style. Alcohol fuel is "liquid sunshine" and can't be controlled by transnational corporations. You can produce alcohol for less than $1 a gallon, using a wide variety of plants and waste products, from algae to stale donuts. It's a much better fuel than gasoline, and you can use it in your car, right now. You can even use alcohol to generate electricity. Alcohol fuel production is ecologically sustainable, revitalizes farms and communities, and creates huge new opportunities for small-scale businesses. Its byproducts are clean and valuable. Alcohol has a proud history and a vital future. To learn more, watch the 5-minute " Alcohol Fuel Overview " video below (first video in the list), read the Two-Minute Summary , and check out our Alcohol Can Be a Gas!

The Portal serves as a resource for permaculture information as well as the online home for our extraordinary permaculture site on Orcas Island, the Bullock's Permaculture Homestead. For over 25 years we have applied our shared experience to create what experts refer to as the finest permaculture site in North America. Together we develop and implement practical solutions for sustainable living while offering hands-on permaculture courses, workshops, internships, and more. "The Bullock brothers up on Orcas Island have always been great, you know, mixed system, marsh and hillside and there are many others, I'm sure. But for every Bullock brother, there are a hundred woo woos spinning around in circles."
- Bill Mollison, Permaculture Founder "What permaculturists are doing is the most important activity that any group is doing on the planet. We don't know what details of a truly sustainable future are going to be like, but we need options, we need people experimenting in all kinds of ways and permaculturists are one of the critical gangs that are doing that."

This is based on ecological and biological principles, often using patterns that occur in nature to maximise effect and minimise work. Permaculture aims to create stable, productive systems that provide for human needs, harmoniously integrating the land with its inhabitants. The ecological processes of plants, animals, their nutrient cycles, climatic factors and weather cycles are all part of the picture. Inhabitants’ needs are provided for using proven technologies for food, energy, shelter and infrastructure. Elements in a system are viewed in relationship to other elements, where the outputs of one element become the inputs of another. Within a Permaculture system, work is minimised, “wastes” become resources, productivity and yields increase, and environments are restored. Permaculture principles can be applied to any environment, at any scale from dense urban settlements to individual homes, from farms to entire regions.

Introduction to Permaculture
The word "permaculture" was coined in 1978 by Bill Mollison, an Australian ecologist, and one of his students, David Holmgren. It is a contraction of "permanent agriculture" or "permanent culture." Permaculture is about designing ecological human habitats and food production systems. It is a land use and community building movement which strives for the harmonious integration of human dwellings, microclimate, annual and perennial plants, animals, soils, and water into stable, productive communities. The focus is not on these elements themselves, but rather on the relationships created among them by the way we place them in the landscape. This synergy is further enhanced by mimicking patterns found in nature.

Wherein good design in front makes less work behind! Ahllan wa sahllan! My name is Murad and I am here to tell you, permaculture is the way to go, man! Permaculture is PERMAnant agriCULTURE... Acres USA:
"The more you understand, the more you can put nature to work for you, the less you need." Mollison:
"That's right. You should be thinking of getting out of work in six years time. You should be moving to where you don't have to move, you're just running around on the farm and admiring the ways the trees are working for you. This mate of mine... he's got a great big sign up on his farm, and it says: 'Employed on this farm are one stockman, one irrigation man and 50 billion worms. That's all.'"
Permaculture is the design of human living spaces around environmental principles. Permaculture is not an end or destination, but rather a means or road leading towards sustainable and ecologically sound ways to meet human needs. Permaculture uses thoughtful observation rather than mindless labor. It uses cunning not resources. It works to slow the rate of increase of entropy (disorder). It turns waste to resources problems into assets. Permaculturists treat every situation differently work parallel to nature not at right angles to it. They care for the earth, care for people, give away surplus, and always pick up hitch-hikers.
To become a practitioner of Permaculture, you must first take a Permaculture Design Course and be certified. Permaculture Design Courses are going on regularly in 40 nations now. There are even regular convergences of Permaculture teachers, and Institutes for advancement of the science.

Advanced Permaculture Principles and Planning Tools 4 day course with David Holmgren
In this intensive course, David Holmgren, co-originator of the permaculture concept (with Bill Mollison), provides an insight into permaculture as a set of design principles for reshaping how we manage land, our lives and our livelihoods in a world of energy descent. It is targeted at permaculture practitioners, designers, activists and teachers, Permaculture Design Certificate (PDC) holders and other suitably experienced people, who are looking to deepen their understanding of permaculture and improve their conceptual skills and tool kit for design and action.

Planning our summer holidays
This year has been quite busy in terms of work and other compromise s, so we think it would be a good idea to reward ourselves with uncommon holidays. Although Spain is suffering a profound economic crisi s, we are not affected economically yet , so we've reserved some money to spend on our summer holidays. We plan to go to "Lapland a virgin region in the north of Finland, to do a mult ia dventure in this natural landscape. The adventure is ten days long: three days walking, three days going by bicycle, four days can oe in g, and the last day will be reserved to visit the city of Enontekio . The route is about 700 kilometers long. The climate there is quite cold in winter and autumn and tolerable in spring and summer, oscillating between degrees Celsius a nd 15 degrees Celsius. When we'll be there it'll be summer time, so we only are a bit worried about the temperature during the night. It's better to practice some sport before doing the adventure to enjoy it without physical stress and suffering too much stiffness. One of the most important thin
