Philosophy
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation search A philosophy is a way of thinking about the world , the universe , and about people . A philosophy is a group of ideas, worked out by a philosopher (someone who has studied ways of thinking about the world). The ideas in philosophy are abstract , which means that they are "things that cannot be touched." But this does not mean that philosophy is not about the real world. Ethics, for example, asks what we should do in our everyday lives, and metaphysics asks about how the world works and what it is made of. Sometimes people talk about how they have a "personal philosophy", which means the way a person thinks about the world. This article is not about people's "personal philosophies." This article is about the ideas that have been thought about by philosophers (people who think and write about ways of thinking) for a long time. For thousands of years philosophers have asked questions, such as:

Why develop a personal philosophy of education?
A teacher's personal philosophy of education is a critical element in his or her approach to guiding children along the path of enlightenment.
Barbara Wilt
The philosophical watertightness and eloquence of novice-generated philosophies may lack somewhat in academic integrity, but I have found the raw passion of many people's personal philosophies to be significant in challenging and shaping my own philosophy What's more, personal philosophies guide practice far more than ivory tower philosophies.

Evolutionarily Imperfect Worlds
By Mike Almeida on October 28, 2010 4:55 PM 7 Comments No TrackBacks I want to consider a response to a Darwinian Problem of Evil . There are of course other ways to formulate the Darwinian problem. The atheological argument goes this way. 1.1 Were it true that God existed, then there would be no non-human animal suffering in any possible world. 1.2. Possibly, there is non-human animal suffering. 1.3. /:. God does not exist. Notice that for the atheist, (1.1) is presented as a non-trivially true counterpossible. And it is assumed that MT holds for counterpossibles. It follows from (1.1) that (1.4) is true. 1.4. Were it true that God existed, then it would be true that no non-human animal in any possible world has the essential property of possibly manifesting the disposition to suffer painful mental states in some world. But, if these are counterpossibles and genuinely non-trivial, then there is much less reason to affirm (1.4) than to affirm (1.5). 1.5. Were it true that God existed, then it would be true that some non-human animals in some possible worlds have the essential property of possibly manifesting the disposition to suffer painful mental states.

Philosophy and Christian Theology
First published Mon May 13, 2002; substantive revision Sat Jan 26, 2008 Many of the doctrines and concepts central to Christianity have important philosophical implications or presuppositions. In this article we will take a closer look at some of the central doctrines and concepts, and their philosophical relevance. Of course, many philosophically laden doctrines and concepts are relevant to Christianity, and we cannot discuss them all here. Rather, our focus will be on those concepts and doctrines that are distinctively Christian, and which have been the focus of a good deal of recent discussion in the philosophical literature. Thus, although theism is a central Christian concept, it is not distinctively Christian and so will not be covered here. Further, although views about the Eucharist, a central Christian concept, have held a significant place in the philosophical dialogue in former times, it will not be discussed here since it has not been a significant focus of recent discussions. As a result, we will concentrate on three distinctive and central Christian concepts which have received significant attention in the recent literature: the doctrines of the Trinity and the Incarnation, and views on the nature of atonement.
