Israel's New Strategy May Be Working
Following Israel's announcement that it would retake Palestinian land following terrorist attacks, Yasser Arafat called on Palestinians to stop the attacks.
I think this new plan can be effective, as long as Israel is willing to return the land when the attacks stop. Furthermore, I think it can easily be combined with a proposal like the one I stated earlier , in which Israel offers to give complete Palestinian control over a piece of disputed territory if the attacks stop for a substantial amount of time.
Because many Palestinians believe "martyrdom" is the path to heaven, and because pro-Palestinians groups provide financial rewards to the families of suicide bombers, Israel needs to use "carrot and stick" methods to stop terrorism. Taking land following terrorist attacks, and granting land following periods of no attacks, are virtually the only techniques at Israel's disposal to make suicide bombings unattractive to the Palestinians.
William Saletan posts a similar analysis of the new policy on Slate.

The Case for Prudence in the Public Square
Author: Clarke D. Forsythe, Esq Because we live in a world of constraints, prudence tells us that if we cannot prohibit a social evil entirely, we can limit it through appropriate fences. Building fences around a social evil, as part of a larger strategy to secure justice, precludes what can be prohibited now without admitting the legitimacy of what remains unprohibited. By limiting the harm done or lessening the negative consequences, we do not admit or support the rest of the evil that we do not have the power (legal or political) to touch now. Length

The staff attached to the centre have backgrounds in policy analysis, social administration, management, planning, law, economics and social research.
About the CPPM

IPR economist Jonathan Guryan and his colleagues explore whether such programs could prove popular in the United States, encouraging low- and moderate-income earners to saveperhaps more successfully than via traditional vehicles like 401(k)s or IRAs. State Budget Report June 1, 2010
Greetings I want to thank all of you for your activity in support of the goal of the Responsible Budget Coalition to achieve a responsible budget with significant new revenues. Illinois needs a comprehensive solution to the budget mess avoid harmful cuts to vital programs, pay the bills, fix the structural deficit to prevent a similar meltdown in the future and that solution is not possible without significant new revenues. You made the calls and emails; you visited your legislator in-district or appeared at town halls and forums; you told your stories to the local media; you came to Springfield; you showed up and did not let the cynics and the conventional wisdom stop you. And it really made is making a difference!! The ball is moving down the field towards our goal.

Genetically engineered wheat graces the cover of , America's premiere trade weekly for the chemical industry. In the past 100 years, agriculture has undergone a technological revolution comparible in scope and importance to the Industrial Revolution. Crops in America, Europe, and much of Asia are grown with the aid of fertilizers, pesticides, and many gallons of fossil fuelat the cost of ecological consequences we are only now beginning to understand. The U.N. projects that in 25 years the population of the Earth will top 10 billion. How can we increase food production without destroying the environment on which agriculture depends?

The focus of this course is on the intersection between scientific knowledge and policy-making. What do scientists mean when they say they know something? When does scientific knowledge help make policy decisions, and when not? How can non-scientists inform themselves about technological issues?
