Gervais has become a star as the loathsome David Brent
By BBC News Online's Rebecca Thomas Comedian Ricky Gervais - star of hit BBC comedy The Office - has a philosophy when it comes to finding fulfilment from a career. Life's too short, he says, to settle for second best. "Don't do things just for the money, that are half-baked or you're not sure about," Gervais says in his soft, laid back tones. "It's better to do only one good thing in life than 18 average ones. So many people end up regretting their lives but at the end of day you realise so little actually matters."
David Brent is a sad idiot, going through a mid-life crisis and suffering a job he is not proud of
Ricky Gervais It's a sound strategy and one Gervais, 40, could claim to embody himself. A self-confessed sloth and late-starter, having flitted from job to job, he only found his niche in comedy at the age of 36. And the last laugh is definitely on Gervais because as The Office's David Brent - a man who refuses to admit his career aspirations have failed - he has gone from being little-known to being a star.

Two-toed sloths are found in Central America, throughout northern South America and in the Amazon basin. Two toed sloths are medium-sized animals, with a body slightly more than half a meter in length and weight up to around 9 kg. They are covered with long, usually pale gray-brown fur (paler on the head) that takes on a greenish hue due to symbiotic algae living on the hairs. Under the coarse outer fur, the pelage grades into a layer of finer, shorter underfur. External ears are much reduced in size. The forelimbs and hindlimbs are long, with the forelimbs somewhat longer than the hindlimbs (but the difference is not as extreme as it is in three-toed sloths, Bradypodidae ). The forelimbs end in two large, curved

Megalonychids first appeared in the early Oligocene , about 35 million years ago, in southern Argentina ( Patagonia ), and spread as far as the Antilles by the early Miocene Megalonychids first reached North America by island-hopping , about 9 million years ago, prior to the formation of the Isthmus of Panama . Some lineages of megalonychids increased in size as time progressed. The first species of these were small and may have been partly tree-dwelling, whereas the Pliocene (about 5 to 2 million years ago) species were already approximately half the size of the huge Late Pleistocene Megalonyx jeffersonii from the last ice age . Some West Indian island species were as small as a large cat; their dwarf condition typified both tropical adaptation and their restricted island environment. This small size also enabled them a degree of aboreality.

It is distributed through Central and South America, south to southern Brazil. Three-toed sloths weigh 3 - 5 kg; their bodies run around 0.5 m in length. They are covered with dense, long, shaggy fur made up of thick hairs with longitudinal grooves. Beneath the overfur is short underfur of finer texture. Some have unusually long neck hairs, which form a mane. Individual hairs are directed so that they point towards the ground when the animal hangs beneath a branch, perhaps helping it shed rain. Three-toed sloths are mostly tan or yellow-brown in color (with some contrasting markings on the face and mane), and the grooves in the individual hairs contain algal cells that give the coat a greenish cast. Bradypodids have a short and very stout tail. The forearms of three-toed sloths are longer than the hind limbs. Fore and hind feet have three enlarged, hook-like

Sloth
One of the seven capital sins . In general it means disinclination to labour or exertion. As a capital or deadly vice St. Thomas II-II:35 ) calls it sadness in the face of some spiritual good which one has to achieve ( Tristitia de bono spirituali ). Father Rickaby aptly translates its Latin equivalent acedia (Gr. akedia ) by saying that it means the don't-care feeling. A man apprehends the practice of virtue to be beset with difficulties and chafes under the restraints imposed by the service of God . The narrow way stretches wearily before him and his soul grows sluggish and torpid at the thought of the painful life journey. The idea of right living inspires not joy but disgust, because of its laboriousness . This is the notion commonly obtaining, and in this sense sloth is not a specific vice according to the teaching of St. Thomas , but rather a circumstance of all vices . Ordinarily it will not have the malice of mortal sin unless, of course, we conceive it to be so utter that because of it one is willing to bid defiance to some serious obligation St. Thomas
