Squid: Optimising Web Delivery
Squid is a caching proxy for the Web supporting HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, and more. It reduces bandwidth and improves response times by caching and reusing frequently-requested web pages. Squid has extensive access controls and makes a great server accelerator. It runs on most available operating systems, including Windows and is licensed under the GNU GPL.
Making the most of your Internet Connection
Squid is used by hundreds of Internet Providers world-wide to provide their users with the best possible web access. Squid optimises the data flow between client and server to improve performance and caches frequently-used content to save bandwidth. Squid can also route content requests to servers in a wide variety of ways to build cache server hierarchies which optimise network throughput.
Website Content Acceleration and Distribution
Thousands of web-sites around the Internet use Squid to drastically increase their content delivery. Squid can reduce your server load and improve delivery speeds to clients. Squid can also be used to deliver content from around the world - copying only the content being used, rather than inefficiently copying everything. Finally, Squid's advanced content routing configuration allows you to build content clusters to route and load balance requests via a variety of web servers. [The Squid systems] are currently running at a hit-rate of approximately 75%, effectively quadrupling the capacity of the Apache servers behind them. This is particularly noticeable when a large surge of traffic arrives directed to a particular page via a web link from another site, as the caching efficiency for that page will be nearly 100%.

Bull Shark Videos Squid, a swift marine invertebrate (animal without a backbone). Squid are an important food in Asia and the Mediterranean area. The squid has a beaklike mouth surrounded by ten arms lined with suckers. The squid has a soft, torpedo-shaped body surrounded by a mantle, a muscular protective organ. At the posterior end, the mantle has fins, which are usually held close to the body; at the anterior end, it surrounds the head like a collar. The mantle is supported by a horny structure called a pen. The squid moves by jet propulsion—as the mantle opens, water is taken in; as the mantle closes, the water is expelled through the siphon, a nozzlelike structure below the eyes. By bending the siphon, the squid can swim in any direction; however, it usually swims backwards. The beaklike mouth is surrounded by 10 arms, which are lined with suckers. Two of the arms are tentacles and are used to seize prey, such as fish or crustraceans, and transfer it to the other arms. The arms then hold it in place while the squid feeds.

Squid can make a superb meal provided it is fresh and cooked correctly. Old overcooked squid can be chewier than bubble gum and more suitable for tyre retreads than the table. The secret is to catch it yourself or buy it from a reputable fish shop. Ask among your friends - it shouldn't be too difficult to find someone who loves squid and can recommend a good fishing spot or shop!
Plain Gorgeous Squid Rings
(serves 4) This is great as a snack or an entree. 1 squid, cut into rings
2 eggs
1 cup dried breadcrumbs
2-3 tablespoons of olive oil
Freshly ground black pepper (to taste) Method Place the flour in a plastic bag, add the squid rings and, holding the top of the bag tightly closed, shake the contents. Break the eggs into a small mixing bowl, add pepper and beat. Dust off the excess flour from the rings, dip them in the beaten egg and roll in breadcrumbs. Place them on a plate and refrigerate for 15 minutes (to set the breadcrumbs). Heat the olive oil in a frypan and cook the rings for 15-20 seconds on each side, or until golden brown. Don't overcook!
