CORE STANDARDS The South Dakota Content Standards articulate an essential core of knowledge and skills that the state as a whole wants students to master. Standards clarify what students are expected to know and be able to do at various points in their K-12 academic career. Local adoption and implementation of state standards ensures that the education students receive is consistently strong across all of South Dakota, and that completion of high school has common meaning throughout the state. Developing state standards is a challenging undertaking. In South Dakota, it has been a combined effort of the South Dakota Board of Education, veteran educators, state agency staff, senior scholars, interested citizens, and high-level policymakers. The most recent phase began with the common-sense notion that an academic standard must be clear, specific and measurable. Further, it must be simply stated in plain English and written for the general public as well as for educators. The core of knowledge and skills set forth as board-adopted Standards is essential to prepare South Dakota students for work, for post-secondary education, for responsible citizenship, and for personal fulfillment as life-long learners. Standards serve to focus discussion and to develop consensus on common goals for South Dakota education. At the same time, the Standards do not represent a curriculum nor do they reduce the local school’s responsibility for curriculum planning or determining instructional approaches. In fact, the Standards challenge communities, schools and teachers to work together in implementing effective instructional strategies so that all students can achieve to high levels.

Standards And Technical Assistance Resource Tool (START)

The NASA Technical Standards Program (NTSP) is sponsored by the Office of the NASA Chief Engineer. The primary mission is the enhancement of NASA's engineering capabilities by providing technical standards required to meet the needs of the Agency. The NTSP provides these standards to the Agency by doing the following:
  • supporting the development of non-Government standards
developing NASA technical standards where needed
providing NASA-wide access to standards developed by national and international organizations.
providing single point access to technical information, tools, and best practices needed to achieve technical excellence and further mission success.

The Illinois Learning Standards (ILS) define what all students in all Illinois public schools should know and be able to do in the seven core areas as a result of their elementary and secondary schooling. On June 24, 2010 the Illinois State Board of Education adopted new, more rigorous learning standards for Math and English Language Arts to better prepare students for college and the workforce. Prior to the Board's actions in June the Illinois Learning Standards had not changed since their adoption in 1997. Please Note:

Collection Financial Standards
U. S. Trustee Program General Collection Financial Standards are used to help determine a taxpayer's ability to pay a delinquent tax liability.  Allowable living expenses include those expenses that meet the necessary expense test.   The necessary expense test is defined as expenses that are necessary to provide for a taxpayer’s (and his or her family's) health and welfare and/or production of income. National Standards for food, clothing and other items apply nationwide.   Taxpayers are allowed the total National Standards amount for their family size, without questioning the amount actually spent. National Standards have also been established for minimum allowances for out-of-pocket health care expenses.  Taxpayers and their dependents are allowed the standard amount on a per person basis, without questioning the amount actually spent.

W3C Launches Web Events Working Group
28 October 2010 Archive W3C today launches the Web Events Working Group , whose chartered mission is to provide methods to enable the use of multi-touch and pen-tablet input on devices of all types. Web browsers and mobile devices are making increasing use of touch-sensitive inputs, such as with a screen, trackpad, or tablet interface, as the primary or supplementary interface for web applications. A related class of devices, including drawing tablets, interactive surfaces, pen devices, digital whiteboards, and spatial sensors, are also becoming more Web-enabled, driving the need to account for a wider range of capability than simple touch interfaces. The aim of this group is to determine an appropriate set of functionality to standardize, and to define those features in way that may be deployed quickly, widely, and interoperably. Open Standards, Principles and Practice
An Open Standard is more than just a specification. The principles behind the standard, and the practice of offering and operating the standard, are what make the standard Open.
Principles
  • Availability
Open Standards are available for all to read and implement.
    Maximize End-User Choice
Open Standards create a fair, competitive market for implementations of the standard. They do not lock the customer in to a particular vendor or group.
    No Royalty
Open Standards are free for all to implement, with no royalty or fee. Certification of compliance by the standards organization may involve a fee.
    No Discrimination
Open Standards and the organizations that administer them do not favor one implementor over another for any reason other than the technical standards compliance of a vendor's implementation. Certification organizations must provide a path for low and zero-cost implementations to be validated, but may also provide enhanced certification services.
    Extension or Subset
Implementations of Open Standards may be extended, or offered in subset form. However, certification organizations may decline to certify subset implementations, and may place requirements upon extensions (see
