Canadian studies at Acadia University is a multi-disciplinary program designed to introduce students to various perspectives on Canadian society. In addition to a general Canadian studies program, students may choose courses which focus primarily on Atlantic Canada, on Canadian culture, or on contemporary Canadian issues. It is also possible to earn a major in Canadian Studies alone, or to combine it with another discipline to receive a double major. Canadian studies is taken as a special option in the Faculty of Arts. Given the wide variety of courses available in Canadian topics, students are advised to consult with the Dean of Arts or the Co-ordinator of the Canadian Studies Option when planning their program to ensure that all degree requirements for the B.A. with Options (as outlined in the University Calendar) are met. An honours program is also offered in Canadian studies. This program is of particular interest to students who propose to do graduate work in Canadian studies.

Brazil campaign ends with Divine intervention
On 28 October, Pope Benedict XVI told Brazilian bishops in Rome that they had "a grave duty to pronounce moral judgements" on political issues. The leading presidential candidate in Sunday’s run-off vote, Dilma Rousseff, whose expected first round triumph on 3 October last was de-railed at the last minute by the conservative religious vote, said yesterday that she respected the pope’s position, reiterating her “personal opposition” to abortion. Her rival, José Serra, tried to capitalise on the papal statement, offering his support for the pope’s message. Latinnews Daily Briefing 29 Oct 2010 Free trial
Peru’s regional elections: A three-week shambles As we went to press on 26 October, the results of the 3 October municipal and regional elections were still not complete. The lengthy three-week delay raises serious doubts over the competence of the country’s electoral authorities, with general elections just five months away. While just eight of the 25 regional results are in, a clear picture has begun to emerge, and it suggests that Peru is increasingly an electoral ‘archipelago’. In the main Lima race, the centre-left Susana Villarán has pipped her conservative rival Lourdes Flores Nano to the post, but by the narrowest of margins.
