HISTORY HOME Since its inception in 1958, NASA has accomplished many great scientific and technological feats in air and space. NASA technology also has been adapted for many nonaerospace uses by the private sector. NASA remains a leading force in scientific research and in stimulating public interest in aerospace exploration, as well as science and technology in general. Perhaps more importantly, our exploration of space has taught us to view Earth, ourselves, and the universe in a new way. While the tremendous technical and scientific accomplishments of NASA demonstrate vividly that humans can achieve previously inconceivable feats, we also are humbled by the realization that Earth is just a tiny "blue marble" in the cosmos. Check out our "Thinking About NASA History" folder online as an introduction to how history can help you.

THE TOBACCO TIMELINE
Author: Gene Borio
IN THE BEGINNING . . .
Huron Indian myth has it that in ancient times, when the land was barren and the people were starving, the Great Spirit sent forth a woman to save humanity. As she traveled over the world, everywhere her right hand touched the soil, there grew potatoes. And everywhere her left hand touched the soil, there grew corn. And when the world was rich and fertile, she sat down and rested. When she arose, there grew tobacco . . .
TOBACCO TIMELINE
SOURCES: Thanks to tobacco researcher Larry Breed (LB) for his contributions. He recently found a little tome called "This Smoking World" (1927), and shared some of its events (TSW). I am also beginning to incorporate events referenced in Richard Kluger's monumental Ashes to Ashes (RK), The American Tobacco Story (ATS), Corti's "A History of Smoking (1931), Elizabeth Whelan's A Smoking Gun, and Susan Wagner's Cigarette Country (1971). Another important source is Bill Drake's wonderful The European Experience With Native American Tobacco (BD). Many will be interested in the 1989 Surgeon General report segment

Welcome to our newest member, NewMars Welcome to AlternateHistory.com!
Our Discussion Forum is the largest gathering of alternate history fans on the internet.
What is alternate history?
Alternate history is the exercise of looking at the past and asking "what if"? What if some major historical event had gone differently, and how could that have changed the world? Popular "what if" questions that you may have seen in fiction include "what if the Nazis had won the Second World War?" and "what if the South had won the US Civil War?", but it can be just as interesting to think about Aztecs resisting Spanish colonization or a Japan that did not turn its back on the world under the Shogunate. Alternate history is a literary genre, but here we're mainly interested in history itself - and the politics, strategy, culture, and more that define it. We spend most of our time debating our own ideas about history and how it could have gone differently, so this is a community focused on creativity and learning.

History
Home About Us Pearson Education is the world's leading educational and professional publisher. The imprints that make up Pearson Education describe a rich educational and literary heritage. They stretch back to 1725 when Thomas Longman published the first book typeset by Benjamin Franklin. The Scott Foresman imprint, dating back to 1889, taught generations of Americans to read with the first Dick, Jane, and Spot stories. Law professor, Dr. Charles Gerstenberg, and his student, Richard Ettinger, founded Prentice Hall in 1913. Taking their mothers' maiden names - Prentice and Hall - to name their new company, Gerstenberg and Ettinger would create the premier U.S. publisher of academic, business, and professional books. Addison-Wesley's reputation as a science and math publisher of note was firmly established with the debut of the best-selling, Mechanics , in 1942. Today, Pearson Education has the most widely trusted and respected programs in educational and professional publishing. The following chronology documents the history and evolution of Pearson Education. 1700's 1800's 1900's 2000's Select a century to jump to that period
January The Pearson Foundation announces a donation of $3 million over the next three years to support New Leaders for New Schools, a national non-profit organization devoted to developing the next generation of school leaders for urban public schools. A portion of Pearson's investment will fund fifteen principals in training over three years to focus on secondary education.

Where is the Truth hidden?
Sometimes the Truth is not in the closet or any secret place. Sometimes the Truth is "hidden" in a plain sight - just staying before us, waiting to be seen. But to be able to see it we would have had an eyes to see. And I can assure you, this usually is the most difficult "exercise" for us, because we probably forgot the mastery of seeing. We're flowing blind and complacent in our illusory world - the World as taught to perceive it by our programs, our social and family imprinting, our hidden masters...
Yesterday, late evening, I was browsing the usual places on the net I'm searching for a new information and insight in my history research. And I found this article - The True Identity of Fulcanelli,
