Sovereignty
First published Sat May 31, 2003; substantive revision Tue Jun 8, 2010 Sovereignty, though its meanings have varied across history, also has a core meaning, supreme authority within a territory The history of sovereignty can be understood through two broad movements, manifested in both practical institutions and political thought. The first is the development of a system of sovereign states, culminating at the Peace of Westphalia in 1648. Contemporaneously, sovereignty became prominent in political thought through the writings of Machiavelli, Luther, Bodin, and Hobbes. The second movement is the circumscription of the sovereign state, which began in practice after World War II and has since continued through European integration and the growth and strengthening of laws and practices to protect human rights. The most prominent corresponding political thought occurs in the writings of critics of sovereignty like Bertrand de Jouvenel and Jacques Maritain.

Political Thought
Every man has a right to utter what he thinks truth, and every man has a right to knock him down for it. - Dr. Samuel Johnson English author, lexicographer

RELIGION AND POLITICS
1) Liberty and freedom of religion
2) Citizenship, and the right to equality and non-discrimination and
3) Neutrality and the separation of state and religion.
The first two principles have posed little controversy in the Indian context. Rather, the right to freedom of religion and the right to equality and non-discrimination are generally recognized as important constitutional values in their own right as well as a foundation of Indian secularism. The third principle i.e. relation between religion and politics, is the main cause of problem. To understand the relation between religion and politics it is necessary to understand the concepts of Toleration, and secularism/communalism.

GLOBALISATION AND THE INDIAN ECONOMY
We are living in the age of technology when distances of time and spaces have current and the vast big world of ours has become one global village.
Globalization is a process which draws countries of their insulation and makes them join the rest of the world in the march toward a new world order. It means the growing interconnectedness of the modern world. The increased ease of movement of goods, services, capital, people and information across national borders is rapidly creating a single global economy.

by Thomas Fleming It is a feminist truism that women have always worked. By work is not meant so much the routine tasks of the household—the storage and preparation of food, the making and cleaning of clothing, and the household chores of sweeping, cleaning, and tending children—but the degraded and degrading concept of work as a job for which one is paid or even something one would not do except for money. Which Special Interest Groups are Pouring the Most Money into Elections?
By Rachel Alexander, on October 30th, 2010 The special interest groups putting the most money into campaigns this year are almost all on the left and contributing to Democrats, despite scare articles put out by the New York Times and others focusing on contributions by the moderate U.S. Chamber of Commerce. The number of unions alone listed as top contributors is alarming. Continue reading Which Special Interest Groups are Pouring the Most Money into Elections? Leave a comment
