Computer Labs Search Our Site Welcome to the Department of Social Work UTEP’s location, in a bi-national, bi-cultural urban community of 1.5 million people on the U.S.-Mexico border, gives our students a unique perspective on social work. The Department of Social Work is committed to educate culturally competent practitioners. By combining classroom work and practicum fieldwork in social service agencies in El Paso, Texas and the region, UTEP students graduate with the skills and knowledge to practice social work in a wide variety of settings. The UTEP Department of Social Work administers two degree programs. The Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) prepares students for generalist practice. Over 140 students are enrolled in the BSW Program. The Master of Social Work (MSW) prepares students for advanced practice in social work with a concentration on Social Work Practice in the Border Region. The MSW presently enrolls 25 students. The UA School of Social Work is conducting a brief survey about the continuing education needs/interests of social workers in the state. The School is interested in the information in order to increase the continuing education offerings available. Click the following link to the  online survey Thank you for your participation. I hope your interest in a career in social work has brought you here. Whether you are seeking a bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degree, this site has the information you need. Our current enrollment is over 450 students, with almost 200 undergraduates, 250 master's students, and 30 Ph.D. students. Our 29 full-time faculty have a wide variety of research and practice interests, including, for example, gerontological social work, child welfare, mental health, and substance abuse. Our undergraduate program focuses on preparing students for generalist social work practice or for graduate school. Our master's program prepares students for advanced practice, with two concentrations: (a) children and their families and (b) adults and their families. Our PhD program focuses on preparing students for scholarly careers. Many graduates become faculty members in social work programs around the country and overseas.
