PUT SOME ADVENTURE IN YOUR LIFE!!! USA Fit Adventure Racing offers specialized training for experienced and aspiring adventure racers looking to improve their performance, or anyone looking to improve their fitness and have fun by participating in a variety of endurance sports. Members receive instruction in running, biking, paddling, navigation and occasionally other disciplines that may be encountered during an adventure race. DFW Fit AR is the Dallas/Fort Worth chapter of USA Fit AR. DFW Fit AR offers two programs throughout the year: a spring season and a fall season. Both programs culminate in an exciting race, after which members can call themselves true adventure racers! The practice schedule includes two practices per week and two weekend practices per month, for a total of 10 practices per month. Practices take place at Murrell Park at Grapevine Lake and are led by a group of experienced coaches . Practices rotate through the various disciplines, although members can expect to participate in more than one discipline per practice. Weekend practices will be reserved for training efforts in "fringe" disciplines that racers may need to be familiar with (such as rollerblading, climbing or ropes work), endurance efforts in a particular discipline or a multi-sport effort of some kind (a "brick" or "trick"). Team Subaru a.k.a. "Bones" wins in Costa Rica!!
Race report as published on Sleepmonsters.com 3.17.07
By Jason Quinn Team Bones (USA) racer Jason Quinn gives SleepMonsters an exclusive first-hand report of their race. Jason and team-mates Roy Malone, Chris Barry and Louisa Jankins took first place in the competition, travelling 450 km from Costa Rica’s southern Pacific coast and making it to the northern Caribbean coast in about 91 hours. The team donated $500 of their prize money to a one-room school that served as a PC for the race. It could have been the start of a classic Western. High noon in the hot sun, a duel just beginning. But rather than a gunfight it was a wild race through the jungles and rivers and mountains of Costa Rica, that began on the deserted beach. It had to be noon, because the spit of land that we started on is under water when the tide is in, so for that day either noon or midnight... and like any good race director, Mike has a slightly masochistic bent and there is far more potential for physiologic carnage when you exert yourself during the hottest part of the day in the tropics. When one of our teammates arrived without her bike and box of gear, we were worried that our race might not even begin. But the race organization only puts on races in their free time, and runs a wildly successful adventure tourism business with fleets of bikes and kayaks. So after a little wheeling and dealing, we had ourselves the gear we’d need to actually do the race. Granted it wasn’t the carbon fiber goodies we were used to, but the saying holds true in Costa Rica as well... beggars can’t be choosers.

Where It All Began
Seeking the Ultimate Challenge

There are endless accounts through history of the human search for the ultimate challenge. And as each goal is achieved a new, even bigger challenge is set. For some, adventure racing offers the next step in that search for the ultimate challenge. When people felt that the marathon had been tackled triathlons were created. When that got tired, the ultimate triathlon was created - Ironman. Now some people have moved on to double Ironmans and ultra marathons, while others have taken on adventure racing. Although, with adventure racing it was much more than just adding to the distance or physical difficulty. A whole new genre of sport was created by adding much more technical skill requirements, strategy and planning.
Simply stated, adventure racing is an opportunity for people to challenge themselves. It's a chance to push yourself to your limits or, for the really daring, to redefine your limits. This challenge is not just limited to elite athletes either. There is so much more to adventure racing than just being in shape. Anyone wanting to challenge themselves can enjoy adventure racing. In fact, you don't even have to finish a race to reap the rewards - which is good because less than 25% of teams finish their first race. Although the races are designed to be competitive, you quickly learn you are really only in competition with yourself. The point is not how well you did relative to the other teams, it's whether or not you truly challenged yourself.

Chat with an Avocado! Adam Armijo Michael Chastaine Aja Cook ... SOLE We started the season by traveling to North Queensland Australia and raced the XPD - Caines. 9 days of extremely challenging racing from the Great Barrier Reef, through the jungle and into the Outback. We finished 13th out of 47 teams in this World Championship qualifier. Over the summer we raced in several local races including the Tahoe Big Blue 24 hour, Folsom and Red Tail and the Gold Rush 24 hour races. Brian returned to New Hampshire for Untamed New England, raced in West Virgina at the E-fix and finished the season with the checkpoint Tracker National championship in Moab, racing with Tencu Extreme. We concluded the season with the 5 day Desert Winds, racing through the Mojave Desert. Through perseverance and teamwork we finished 4th. As the season winds down we are already planning our 2011 season. Stay tune as we look forward to more great adventures.
