A special case of exercise is known as aerobics which is generally categorized as involving rapid stepping patterns that are performed to accompanying music with an instructor providing the necessary cues. After the 1970 publication of a book written by Cooper named The New Aerobics the activity known as aerobics grew in popularity and peaked in the 1980s with a lot of celebrities like Jane Fonda and Richard Simmons creating their own videos and television shows to promote their exercises.
There are two types of group exercise aerobics and these are Freestyle aerobics as well as the Pre-choreographed aerobics. Freestyle aerobics incorporate a style of aerobic exercises that are linked closely to choreography as well as dance and are mainly practiced to enhance a person' s flexibility with most of the participants of this form of aerobic exercising being young female children as well as women aged 35 or above.

Is it any wonder that aerobic exercise takes your breath away? The word aerobic actually means "with oxygen". And anyone who's ever performed a sweat-fest of an aerobic workout knows that you're not left with much oxygen by the end. Your body's aerobic system is made up of your heart, lungs, blood vessels and muscles. Simply put, aerobics are performed vigorously, regularly to keep your aerobic system healthy and in proper working order. You can equate aerobic exercise to a dental checkup although instead of tuning up the teeth, gums and mouth, aerobic exercise tunes up the aerobic system. A body's aerobic capacity is based on how effectively oxygen is delivered to your muscles. Therefore, as your aerobic workouts increase, the faster your ability to take in and transport oxygen will improve. A regular aerobic exercise program at least 30 minutes, 3 to 4 times per week will promote longer life, enhance your self esteem, help you to maintain your weight, and lower your blood sugar and cholesterol levels, even if the intensity is low and in short intervals. Aerobic exercise is even believed to increase one's sexual stamina, so you can imagine what a hearty dose of aerobic exercise, 4 times a week will translate to in the bedroom! Plus, if you're trying to lose a few unwanted pounds, aerobic exercise has a reputation for being the fastest fat burner compared to any other type of exercise.

What is Aerobic Exercise?
The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) defines aerobic exercise as "any activity that uses large muscle groups, can be maintained continuously, and is rhythmic in nature." It is a type of exercise that overloads the heart and lungs and causes them to work harder than at rest. The important idea behind aerobic exercise today, is to get up and get moving!! There are more activities than ever to choose from, whether it is a new activity or an old one. Find something you enjoy doing that keeps your heart rate elevated for a continuous time period and get moving to a healthier life.

The Components of Summum Meditation
For those who practice the Summum meditation, its components include physical exercise. The Summum philosophy book, SUMMUM: Sealed Except to the Open Mind , states the following: Physical Exercise The OUT The body's respiration and heart rate is accelerated for a time equal in duration to the time your attention was immersed in the vibration of SUMMUM. In order to bring mind, body, and spirit (the whole person) into balance and to move to the point of equilibrium between the point of SUMMUM and "all action and manifested creation," a dynamic, physical, rhythmic dance of exercise is practiced to exhaust the spiritual and physical toxins and impurities from the student. The heart, the seat of the soul, will exhaust the anger, jealousies, and imperfections when a rhythmic dance of dynamic exercise is practiced. The breath, the vent of toxins, will exhaust the impurities from the body and allow a higher spiritual vibration to rest within the mind, body, and spirit. The physical exercise is practiced with utmost intensity and, when completed, exhausts the body in a rhythmic dance of creation's pleasure. Forever Fit Aerobics reminds you of this component and encourages you to maintain physical exercise as part of your Summum meditation practice.

Step Aerobics Exercise
Step aerobics are a newer version and technique of aerobics. Traditional aerobics are performed on the floor: you learn a series of dance steps such as the Pony or the Jazz Square, which are often done in fours, two steps taking you in one direction, two more taking you the other direction.Steps are combined with arm gestures to increase large-muscle movements and increase fat-burning sequences are performed to music. In step aerobics, your workout travels vertically rather than horizontally. You place a step of four to ten inches in height before you, and the routine is arranged so that students step up and down to the music. The smallest step (and the one beginners should use) is four inches high: they increase in height by two inch increments, so you can add risers to your initial step as your fitness level increases.
Step Aerobic Workouts at Home
Step Aerobics is very popular for doing at home becuase of the unlimitless supply of step aerobic exercise videos (Jane Fonda's is very popular), DVDs, and music. The step choreography and routines don't require much space and are easy to do in front of the TV as a step aerobic pattern does not travel far from the stationary step.
