Autocross/Solo II Autocross is an extremely inexpensive and safe way to participate in competitive motorsports. In general, any safe, street legal vehicle can compete without any significant modifications (although heavily modified vehicles may be at a disadvantage due to the rules structure a heavily prepared, supercharged drag racer is unlikely to make a good and competitive autocross car.) Autocross and Solo II events are "Time Trial" style competitions; there is no wheel to wheel racing involved, as cars are sent out one at a time, or at least spaced out so that they should not come into any contact with each other. These events are derived from the original Gymkhana competitions from 50s and 60s. Today, an event called a Gymkhana is usually a "fun" event, with slow speeds and silly tricks. An event called an Autocross or Solo II is usually a serious competition, with speeds perhaps as much as 70mph in large lots or on airport runways. In general, a course is laid out using traffic cones; time penalties will charged for disturbing cones. For most clubs the penalty is 2 seconds per cone, although for some it may be 1 second. In the Discussion Area you will find an discussion topic devoted to Autocross.

Noise complaints were being received by the Board of Directors at Mosquito Control, these are the nice people who give us permission to use the site for our events. Because of these complaints we are going back to the system of using our ears for sound control. If you think your car might be too loud it probably is and you will get a warning or possibly not be allowed to run. Please, we want to see you keep attending our events, if we don't do so quietly there will no longer be any events. Why are we doing this you ask?

The HS stands for H Stock. Autocross is a form of motorsports that emphasizes safe competition and active participation. An autocross is a timed competition where drivers navigate one at a time through a temporary course marked by traffic cones , rather than racing on a track with multiple other cars, as in road racing or oval racing . Autocross tends to place more emphasis on car handling and driver skill than on sheer horsepower, and events typically have many classes which allow almost any vehicle, from economy sedans to purpose-built vehicles, to compete. Speeds are slower in absolute terms when compared to other forms of motorsports, usually not exceeding highway speeds, but the activity level (measured in discrete turns per minute) can be higher than even Formula One due to the large number of elements packed into each course. Autocross courses are typically 40 to 70 seconds in length, with speeds limited to 70mph for insurance purposes. In addition to being a national-level motorsport in its own right, autocrossing is a good way to learn skills that transfer to road racing, as drivers learn vehicle control and club ethics.

Speed - there's no feeling like it
You're in second gear and approaching red-line. Quick shift to third and start building RPM's again. Somewhere around here the big hand of the law firmly says "that's fast enough". Except you're not on a public road now. You're on a twisty, 2 mile long race track with your street car and the RPM's are still building. And now you're shifting to fourth... Competition - this isn't just another track day
The only thing better than speed, is competition. Knowing at the end of the day, you did more than just drive around a race course: you learned, you gained, you had fun, and you competed. Our competition rules keep you racing against cars of similar potential so race results come down to who is the better driver. Minimal Commitment
Our High Speed Autocross program is specifically for drivers who want to compete in their street car without a huge investment in additional equipment and without the threat of rubbing fenders with other drivers. Regardless of what car you have, we have a class you can compete in. We can even give you your lap times without requiring you to purchase additional equipment. Get Started Now - no experience required
Putting your car on a race track can be one of the most exciting experiences you ever have. Our all volunteer organization has been dedicated to providing a safe and competitive environment for almost 50 years. Most new drivers only need their car and an approved helmet to compete with their street car on track. And if you would like help or some instruction, our certified autocross instructors are always available to make sure you learn the basics. Our experience and program format make us one of the safest choices when it comes to putting your car on a race track.

Want to know more about autocross, go to the Porsche Club of America web site: www.pca.org/autox/index.html Remember, to qualify for a year-end series trophy, you need to participate in at least four of the six NER series events. This year, as NER is hosting the Zone 1 autocross, participants will accumulate points from these two days toward the final results. The results will be calculated as if it were a standard NER event (i.e. results will be calculated by eliminating non-NER AX participants from the standings and applying our classifications system). Autocross is a great way to exercise your driving skills in a safe environment. For anyone that would like assistance, there will be instructors available to work with you. Instruction will NOT be available during the Zone 1 event. Each autocross has a different and unique course design and will, hopefully, provide you with a fun driving experience.

General Information:
Autocrossers take on the challenge of running the gauntlet through a maze of orange pylons to see how well they can get through the course while knocking down as few cones as possible, preferably none! There are different classes so that the classic Porsche won't have to complete against the most modern Porsche technology. Autocross is an excellent way to learn the mechanics of ABC (acceleration, braking, cornering). Every well-maintained Porsche of any vintage is appropriate for an autocross. Yes, even Cayennes!
Patrice Bosquet gets ready for the fun part.
Hurricane Region Autocrosses emphasize the fun of turning your Porsche loose rather than winning the SCCA Solo II Championship. Experience is not necessary and there is a minimum of equipment you will need. We follow the Parade Competition classes for small regions and use Parade Competition rules for autocrossing as primary guidelines.
Our emphasis is threefold: safety, fun, cooperation.
