Lee Thomas
Lee Thomas started his career in the minors with the Yankees in 1955. In 1961 he finally broke into the majors; however, after only playing two games for New York, he was traded to the Angels, which was a new expansion team that year. After a couple years in LA he played briefly for the Red Sox, the Braves, and the Cubs before ending up in Houston in 1968.
Lee finished out his playing career in Japan in 1969 but by the early '70s went back to the minors as a coach for St. Louis. He eventually ended up in the front office. He also spent time in the front office of the Phillies and was once named Executive of the Year for all of Major League Baseball. He has also worked for the Red Sox and Brewers as part of their staff.
Thomas is currently a scout for the Astros.

Domingo Jean
Domingo Jean, initially signed by the White Sox, only played one season in the majors (ten games as a matter of fact), and that was with the New York Yankees. The Yankees traded Domingo Jean to Houston for Xavier Hernandez in November of 1993. He never played on the pro level as an Astro but did play two seasons in Tucson before being traded to the Rangers for Roger Luce (never heard of this guy but I'm willing to bet we're related).

Poor Al
Gotta love the descriptions on the backs of 1995 Topps cards, like this one on Al Martin's card, with no hint of irony:
"Al underwent wrist surgery on August 6th, and, on August 7th, the Pirates gave away Al Martin wristbands!"
Ouch! Even more ironic, Martin's replacement in left that day, Steve Pegues, when 2-4 and drove in a key run in the Pirates' one-run victory over St. Louis. Al Martin - who needs him! Posted by Bo at 1:50 PM 0 comments

Benny Colvard on baseball cards
Benny Colvard played six years in the Reds and Royals organizations. He is now a high school baseball coach and an instructor at the Red River Ballyard in Sherman, TX. He kindly shared with me his thoughts on baseball cards.
"My favorites are my 92 Classic Best and 92 Fleer. The only cards I collect or have are team sets of the teams I played for and friends and teammates that made the bigs."
Thanks! I have the Classic Best card but couldn't find a picture of the Fleer ProCards one.

You've dreamt about Dreamcast baseball. You've been waiting for months. It's been on your mind day and night and now it's finally here. So what's the first thing you're gonna do? Send it back quickly and run like all hell just broke loose. I think we should all tip our hats and have a moment of silence because World Series Baseball 2K1 was dead on arrival. *sniff* As one of the most anticipated sports titles of this year, (whew, the abbreviation is almost as long as the actual title) promised to deliver another high quality sports game for Dreamcast owners and, in case you didn't notice, the very first DC baseball title. So far Sega's impressive sports lineup has simply blown away the competition, but with , Sega is the one left holding the bomb.

October 24th, 2010 Massive 230 pound San Francisco shortstop eighth inning 2 out homer off of Phillies reliever Ryan Madson broke a 2-2 tie and ruined a gutty six inning effort by starter Roy Oswalt.   Oswalt worked out of tough spots in the second inning, the third when the Giants scored twice, the fifth and the sixth innings and was twice aided on defense by ground doubleplays.  But the Phils offense struck for 2 second inning runs on 3 hits to take the early lead before going silent for the rest of the game for lack of clutch hitting and scoring.  Giants starter lefthander Jonathan Sanchez Chase Utley with a pitch.  The Giants used 5 relievers including an attempt to bridge ace Tim Lincecum in the eighth to get to closer Brian Wilson.    Lincecum struck out rightfielder Jason Werth but gave up shallow singles to centerfielder Shane Victorino and leftfielder  Raul Ibanez.   Wilson was rushed in and catcher glove (rather than down the rightfield line for extra-bases and Phillies runs) for an inning-ending doubleplay.  Wilson then had a dicey ninth inning walking 2 Phillies while getting 2 groundouts.  But 1st baseman Ryan Howard stood looking at a knee-high 3rd strike slider as Outfielder Cody Ross,

    Business of Baseball Pages

Hi, I'm Doug Pappas. I've been chairman of SABR's Business of Baseball Committee since its founding in 1994.
This Web site collects my writings on the business of baseball. I've written numerous articles for the Business of Baseball Committee newsletter, Outside the Lines . I also write for Baseball Prospectus Boston Baseball and occasionally for ESPN.com. In 2001-02 I posted additional commentary here about the 2001-02 labor negotiations and MLB's attempt to contract . I've recently started a weblog containing shorter commentary and news of site updates.
For the benefit of researchers, I've also collected some hard-to-find data in downloadable form, as well as selected useful links to, and an online bookstore for, other items related to the business of baseball. Most recently, I've added a new section for guest articles and commentaries . There's also a collection of baseball photos
