Sebastian Sylvester (32-3, 15 KOs) will make a first defence of his IBF Middleweight Title on January 30 when he takes on Pablo Navascues (24-1, 16 KOs). The Hurricane returns to the Jahnsportforum in Neubrandenburg where he edged Giovanni Lorenzo on September 19 to win King Arthur Abraham´s vacated title in front of a sell-out crowd of 5,000 enthusiastic fans. “I am looking forward to making my first defence,” Sylvester said. “I expect a tough bout. Navascues is a strong fighter but I will do my best to keep him at bay.”

BOXING HOME BIOLOGY FILMS GEOGRAPHY ... SPONSORS Boxing , nicknamed the "sport of kings" and also called pugilism or prizefighting (when referring to professional boxing), is a sport where two participants of similar weight attack each other with their fists in a series of one to three-minute intervals called "rounds". In both Olympic and professional divisions, the combatants (called boxers or fighters ) avoid their opponent's punches whilst trying to land punches of their own. Points are awarded for clean, solid blows to the legal area on the front of the opponent's body above the waistline, with hits to the head and torso being especially valuable. The fighter with the most points after the scheduled number of rounds is declared the winner. Victory may also be achieved if the opponent is knocked down and unable to get up before the referee counts to ten (a Knockout, or KO) or if the opponent is deemed too injured to continue (a Technical Knockout, or TKO). For record keeping a TKO is a knockout or KO. You will see on boxers' records the mention only of "KO". The phrase "technical knockout" usually only appears in contemporaneous news articles. "The Homecoming", scheduled for Friday, November 19, 2010, at Nevins Hall in Framingham, was to be promoted by Warriors Boxing and feature undefeated Framingham native Danny O'Connor in an experience-building test against veteran Humberto Tapia. Also set for battle was junior middleweight contender Sechew "Iron Horse" Powell (26-2, 15 KOs). O'Connor's fight against Tapia will now be moved to the next night, November 20th, at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, Connecticut. Those who purchased tickets to the Framingham event can contact Warriors Boxing to exchange them for tickets to the Mohegan Sun card or receive a full refund.
