From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation search Entrance to Peacock Springs Cave System Cave diving is a type of technical diving in which specialized SCUBA equipment is used to enable the exploration of natural or artificial caves which are at least partially filled with water. In the UK it is an extension of the more common sport of caving , and in the US an extension of the more common sport of SCUBA diving. It is much more rarely practiced due to the skills and equipment required, and because of the high potential risks. Despite these risks, water-filled caves attract SCUBA divers, cavers , and speleologists due to their often unexplored nature, and present divers with a technical diving challenge. Caves often have a wide range of unique physical features, such as stalactites and stalagmites , and can contain unique flora and fauna not found elsewhere.

edit Hazards
Cave diving is one of the most challenging and potentially dangerous kinds of diving or caving and presents many hazards . Cave diving is a form of penetration diving , meaning that in an emergency a diver cannot swim vertically to the surface due to the cave's ceilings, and so must swim horizontally or diagonally to escape. The underwater navigation through the cave system may be difficult and exit routes may be at considerable distance, requiring the diver to have sufficient

Cave Diving
is a specialized diving certification that few technical divers have accomplished.  It is listed as an extreme activity and is taught as such.  All cave organizations teach the safe art of cave diving, and only certify cave divers when they have reached a level of skill, knowledge and understanding through cetified training that earns them that level.
Cave diving is different from any kind of diving you’ve probably ever done. Entry into these extraordinary spaces and places comes only with training and knowledge. To safely cave dive one must be cool and level-headed, exercise mature judgment, be properly equipped and every dive must be well planned and executed.  The transistion from recreational diving to technical cave diving is tough but rewarding.

http://www.cave-diving-mexico.com/cave_diving.htm
Tek-Center Quintana Roo Cave Diving in Mexico Deutsche Seite The guided cave diving takes place in the many natural springs (Cenotes) between the area of Playa del Carmen and Tulum. This area is situated in the state of Quintana Roo in the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico. The springs have a natural beauty of the surrounding jungle. They are the entrances of the many cave systems we dive. The fresh water is crystal clear visibility as far as the eye can see. Water temperature is 75 F / 24 C constant during the year. Seasonal weather changes have no effect on these cave diving conditions. Average cave diving depths in Mexico are between 40 feet 12 meters and 60 feet 18 meters Nitrox is recommended for safety. We use Nitrox for cave dives to 80 feet 25 meters to prevent decompression or reduce decompression. Decompression dives in the cave are carefully planned the use of Nitrox Mixes and 100% Oxygen is used. Longer and more complex cave dives are possible with the use of stage cylinders. Your cave diving day starts with a 15 to 60 minutes car drive. At the dive site you receive a short orientation and you prepare your dive equipment. Before the cave dive a dive plan is discussed and finalized. A normal cave dive ranges from 60 to 80 minutes. In-between cave dives we have time to relax. Your cave diving vacation in Mexico can range from one to three weeks and we will not run out of caves. Mexico has some of the worlds best cave diving. The warm water, clear visibility, shallow depths, low flow of water and year round consistent cave diving conditions make it an ideal cave diving location. The caves in Mexico have an abundance of Stalactites, Stalagmites, Columns, many different cave formations and cave passages that make Mexico an excellent cave diving experience.

    Cave Diving
Cave diving is truly a pinnacle of Technical Diving. There is no other diving activity that requires as much discipline, training and determination to succeed. We are proud to offer training and certification through the oldest cave training agency - National Association for Cave Diving.
    Our Training Philosophy
Strong emphasis on proper technique and avoiding planting seeds of failure, "training for failure". Emergency procedures will be taught but they will not be the main focus. After learning emergency procedures main focus will be on diving technique, learning anticipating and avoiding the problems that may be encountered in a cavern or a cave. We will be concentrating on developing muscle memory in following correct procedures. Practice will be in the water as well as on dry land.
    Course structure
North Florida is rich in springs and provide excellent location for training due to the diversity and accessibility of caves. We conduct training right in the heart of the Cave Country - High Springs, FL. We offer training packages that include lodging, cylinder rental, nitrox fills. Please take a look at our

Cavers in many countries have tried to pass these barriers in a variety of ways; using the simple "free dive" with a lungful of air or by utilizing the available diving technology of the day.

The attempt was unsuccessful but the foundation of cave diving in the U.K. had been laid.

Cave diving safety and exploration - in the Yucatan peninsula of Mexico
A Brief History
Quintana Roo on the sun drenched shores of Mexico's Caribbean coastline has long been a mecca for cave diving and exploration. Since the early 1980's when the first explorations were begun, explorers have pushed back the darkness to reveal a frontier so vast that it may never be fully explored. The Yucatan is primarily a flat karst (limestone) plateau with few hills and even fewer rivers. In the state of Quintana Roo on the peninsula's Caribbean coastline all the fresh water moves underground through shallow caves. These caves have provided water to the life above for millennia. The ancient Maya as well as the modern day inhabitants of the peninsula rely on this water for their survival. Now, more than twenty years after the first explorations, roughly two hundred miles of submerged caves have been discovered and explored, establishing the Yucatan peninsula as the home of the world's largest and most spectacular underwater caves.
