I have enjoyed diving the Riviera Mayan since 1996. I thought that I would put some pictures out that I have taken during this time in an effort for others to see the magnificent geological structures that can be found in the many cenotes that abound in this area of Mexico. Cave Diving's Most
Important Safety Rules
North-central Florida's crystal-clear, underwater caverns and caves are among its most popular attractions for visiting divers. When divers use common sense and follow important safety rules, diving these overhead environments can be nearly as safe as diving in open water. However, when divers fail to follow these rules, the results are often tragic. Since 1950, nearly 400 divers have perished in Florida's caverns and caves. The vast majority of these divers had no formal training in cavern or cave diving. In the 1960s and 1970s, cave diving pioneer Sheck Exley conducted a careful study of cave diving fatalities. What he discovered was that, in virtually every instance, the victims' demise could be attributed to one or more of just three direct causes. Later, National Speleological Society Cave Diving Section (NSS-CDS) Training Chairman Wes C. Skiles identified two additional factors that, while not directly responsible for divers' deaths, nonetheless contributed substantially to most such fatalities. Together, the findings of Exley and Skiles form the basis for what cave divers know as the Rules of Accident Analysis. These five rules form the basis for all modern cave diver training. They are something of which every diver who visits this unique area should be aware.

Floridacaves.com Cave, Cavern, and Sinkhole Diving Most of the technical information about the springs has come from the Florida Geological Survey Bulletin #31 . This resource was written in the late 1970s and may not current. In October 2004, this document was revised and released as Florida Geological survey Bulletin #66 . You can download the entire document for free by visiting the website. Most of the aerial pictures on my page have come from Microsoft Terraserver . I have tried to post most of the maps that I have of the various system. The maps show some of the dedication of other divers to accumulate and share information with the community. Their exploration efforts have helped the sport tremendously and shows the kind of camaraderie that attracted me to diving in the first place. I did not make any of the maps that you see here nor will I ever try to profit from their works. Some of the maps to certain sites have been password protected from printing. If there are any comments, concerns, complaints, or suggestions, please let me know so that I may refine the page. Where other sites give better, additional, or more complete information about a site, I will try to provide a link. I am hoping to provide the reader with a bit more knowledge of dive sites (both OW and cave) in general. There are too many great pages on gear rigging, training, and dive style for me to even attempt to duplicate their efforts. Another great source that I have had so far was Michael Emanuel's Tampa Caves and Sinks website. This page was

Information concerning cave diving, cavern diving, technical nitrox, scuba diving, as well as, guided tours in North Central Florida, travel and cave diving the Yucatan, Mexico

Your instructor , Michael O'Leary, former President of the National Association of Cave Divers (NACD). He also served as the NACD's International Safety Officer, reporting on cave diving accidents that occur throughout the world through a network of Regional Safety Officers, and as a training committee member, assisting the Training Director to maintain safe training, procedures and education. Michael is also an instructor for the following accredited agencies: The National Speleological Society Cave Diving (NSS-CDS) ; The International Association Nitrox and Technical Divers (IANTD); Technical Diving International-Scuba Diving International (TDI-SDI) ; He is also an open water instructor and a DAN O2 instructor. Michael began diving with the military in 1968. For over ten years, he served as the Scuba Director and Safety Officer at a prestigious New York University. Fascination with the beauty of the underwater world, coupled with intrigue for new adventure, captured his interest when he visited the caves in north central Florida in 1983. After falling in love with the many beautiful and extensive Florida spring systems, he immediately became trained in cave diving. Living within twenty miles of more than thirty springs and sinkholes, which are ranked among the best in the world, has provided the perfect environment for Michael's career as a full time instructor and guide. During the decades he has been involved in diving, Michael has been the recipient of several awards, such as the Abe Davis Safe Cave Diving Award and the Wakulla Gold Award for the completion of over 1000 safe cave dives. He is one of the earliest cave divers to explore the systems in north central Florida and has assisted in the exploration and survey of the Peacock III system, which lies in the heart of cave country in Florida.

This in turn makes cave diving one of the most exciting, rewarding, and sometimes mysterious activities on the planet. It is our mission at cavediving.tv to provide a video based look into this magical underwater world. We will attempt to cover as many aspects of cave diving as possible, from beginner cavern diver training techniques to advanced exploration projects occurring all over the world. We will be conducting interviews with various cave diving equipment manufacturers, cave diving agency training directors, cave diving instructors, dive shop owners, and teams of explorers pushing into unknown systems. We will also be providing videos of cave diving sites, equipment reviews, as well as coverage of cave diving social events, conservation efforts, and much, much more.

Villas De Rosa / Aquatech Dive Center is located in the heart of Mexico's cave diving world. Cave diving emerged in the Akumal-Tulum area during the mid 1980's, when divers discovered that the cenotes (natural wells) were windows to the underground streams. This began an entire New Frontier! As cave divers continued to explore, more cave systems were discovered.
Today, there are over fifty-seven different cave systems to visit with more than 300 miles of passageways to explore and enjoy. Five of the largest water filled cave systems in the world are located in this area. The three longest known stalactitas are also located in the area's systems. History continues to be made as new roads are blazoned into the jungle, allowing access to more and more virgin cenotes. Aquatech's professional staff of cave divers and instructors is a major force in creating this living history.
