Scarpa Manta (m) Grivel Nepal S.A. Ice Axe and Long Leash
The Grivel Nepal S.A. is a non technical axe best suited to winter walking and classic snow climbs, it is durable and robust enough to be found in many winter walking schools and for commercial rental purposes. The carbon-steel head features a classically inclined pick with teeth along half its length. The body and pick are hot, drop forged in one piece, then the stamped adze is welded to it. The Nepal S.A. axe is available in three sizes to suit people of different heights and this version comes with a long leash.
Petzl Charlet Altios Size 1
The Petzl ALTIOS' hybrid suspension system, which is composed of a mesh panel and expanded polystyrene liner, makes this helmet extremely lightweight and comfortable to wear. This innovative design ensures the helmet "levitates" above the head for a near-weightless feeling. The space between the head and the liner allows for effective ventilation with the Climate Control System. The Altios has a durable ABS shell. This helmet is very ergonomic, adapting to almost any head shape and offers two options for attaching a headlamp: a removable system-compatible mount, or clips.
Petzl Charlet Elios Class Helmet
This helmet has a high density expanded polypropylene foam headpiece on the inside and a thermoformed ABS outer shell, providing both lightness and strength. The Elios is ideal for general rock climbing both indoor and out. The cut is protective but gives excellent visibility.

Welcome to the new site!
Welcome to the new, revamped, wikified climbing.tropic.org.uk! What's all that about then? Well, since 1999 climbing.tropic has been the web's most extensive climbing tips site. Unfortunately the original author hasn't had time to contribute new material in a long time, and the site could do with some! So what we're hoping is that some of you steady flow of visitors will help us all out. Please come here and learn how to climb - improve your technique, get up that overhang, crack or chimney - just like you did before. But if you can spare a few moments beyond that, we'd love it if you could contribute a bit and (as with the great outdoors) leave the site better than you found it.

climbing. If you’re used to climbing in the American West, where the rock is clean, dry, and abundant, you might at first look askance at climbing in northern New England.

    Climbing
In time, you can even begin to perceive a kind of magic in the wild, quirky weather, and a subtle beauty in the mossy forest. The extreme seasonal changes become almost exhilarating: the earthy fragrances of early spring, the caresses of cool air rising off lingering patches of snow, the delight and amazement at the emergence of warm, dry rock again for the first time in months, giving way to the green jungle of summer, to the miraculous, blazing pyrotechnics of October color, and to the austere clarity and quiet of November woods. These descriptions are intended primarily to help orient the newcomer to the different climbing areas of this region and to suggest a few of the classic routes. If you are in need of climbing partners or instruction, join the Mountaineering Club . Trips are always heading out, even for the absolute beginner. Call the DOC at (603) 646-2429 to find out weekly meeting times. No brief overview can describe all aspects of every area in sufficient detail to fully forewarn even a competent climber of potential ambiguities of route description and descent options, etc. It is highly recommended that the reader use this chapter in conjunction with one of the detailed climbing guidebooks. If a guidebook to an area is available, it is so noted in the text. XHTML CSS Links

"We're all fucked. It helps to remember that."
George Carlin The iceclimb.com site offers information on iceclimbs and iceclimbing in North American regions (I know that Mexico and Canada haven't been added yet). There are ice festivals during the season which offer entertainment, gear and technique demonstrations, and the chance to cluster with other climbers. For those thinking about getting started , the ice festivals provide a chance to play on ice. Why? I gathered the information found on this website for my own selfish reasons: I wanted to roadtrip and climb more ice. Then I decided to share that information. I hope these pages provide enough data to get you on a great road trip, or up to more local ice. Your comments and questions are almost always welcome (send them to will at iceclimb dot com).
