Double Disc Court
Double disc court is a frisbee sport which combines quickness, strategy, and throwing ability. It is one of seven events contested yearly at the world overall flying disc championships and the most fun thing to do ever. DDC is played by two teams of two players each. The courts are 13 meters square and 17 meters apart. You get one point for a throw that lands and stays in the opponents' court. Your opponents get one point if your throw touches outside their court. If you can arrange it so that the other team is touching both discs at the same time, you get two points. That is called "doubling" your opponents. A common strategy for escaping doubles is to tip one of the discs, then catch and throw the other disc back while the tipped disc is in the air. In the picture, Tony (in the front of the court) has tipped his disc. I am catching the other disc and will throw it back before Tony catches his tip.

One player from each team flips a disc and a player calls "same" or "different" (104.03). After winning the flip what are the choices?
The team winning the disc flip shall have its choice on one of the three options: 1) which court they will defend; or 2) which team shall initiate; or 3) which team shall declare its server. WFDF Official Rules of Flying Disc Sports
Article II - Double Disc Court
Last Change: 20 Jul 1994 Comment : Double disc court is a game played by two teams of two players each. Each team is charged with defending a court from the attack of the opponents. The attacks are made in two ways: by the throwing of one of two discs in play into the opponents' court in an attempt to have the disc come to rest within that court without ever having touched out-of-bounds, or by causing both discs to be touched by a player or players on the opposing team at the same time. A team scores a point whenever they make a successful attack or whenever an opponent throws a disc out-of-bounds. The first team to score the requisite number of points as determined by the competitive format shall win the game. The purpose of the following rules is to provide a guideline which describes the way the game is played. Disc sports have traditionally relied on a spirit of sportsmanship which places the responsibility for fair play on the players themselves. Highly competitive play is encouraged, but never at the expense of the bond of mutual respect between players, adherence to the agreed upon rules of the game, or the basic enjoyment of play. Protection of these vital elements serves to eliminate adverse conduct from the playing field. Such actions as taunting the opposing players, dangerous aggression, intentional violation of the rules, or other "win-at-all-costs" behavior are contrary to the spirit of the game and must be avoided by all players. Violations which compromise this understanding may result in penalties or disqualification by the tournament director.

DOUBLE DISC COURT
Double Disc Court, commonly referred to as DDC, is a unique sport in that two discs are used in play at the same time. Following is a brief description of the game.
Basics
DDC is played on flat ground with well trimmed grass. Courts which are 13 meters square and 17 meters apart are marked with brightly colored rope on the grass. The game is played with two 110 gram Pro model discs. There are two teams consisting of two players each. Each team defends a court. Offensively there are two primary objectives:
  • Throw the disc so that it lands and stays in your opponents court
  • Throw the discs with timing that will cause the opponent(s) to be in contact with both discs simultaneously. Defensively the two primary objectives are:
  • Defend your court by catching discs that threaten to land in and stay in your court
  • Avoid simultaneous contact with both discs by one or both players on a team. Points are scored in three principal ways. Your opponent scores a point if:
  • You drop a disc
  • You throw a disc that touches outside the court
  • You and/or your partner have simultaneous contact with both discs (2 POINTS or DOUBLE).

Vegas Golfers are introduced to GUTS and DDC (Double Disc Court) After the weekly league events and on Wednesday nights at Sunset Park, a small group of devote golfers have slowly been turning other golfers on to other disc sports. Frequently after rounds more and more golfers are joining in pick up games of GUTS and DDC. The support for DDC has been so positive, a league will begin shortly lead by Jeff Jacquart, Pat Bragg, Jeff Kennedy and myself. We are still figuring out a points system for random draw DDC and plan on running the DDC league immediately following the DG league events on Sundays. I'll have some pics up by the end of the week of some of the guys and gals playing. D D C
