Since opening in 1965, and then hosting the prestigious NHRA National Event beginning in 1968, our New Jersey motorsports park has become known by drivers and racing enthusiasts across the country as one of the most thrilling drag racing venues in the world, boasting the finest in timing and track maintenance equipment, and continuous record-setting performances. The sport of drag racing is an acceleration contest between two vehicles racing from a standing start over a straight quarter- or eighth-mile strip. A series of individual two-vehicle races called eliminations make up a drag racing event, with competing vehicles divided into a variety of classes . Class eligibility is determined by several factors, including engine size, type of fuel, vehicle weight, allowable modifications, and aerodynamics. Virtually anyone can compete in drag racing at Englishtown’s Raceway Park with some stipulations. Drivers must be capable of operating the vehicle safely and must have a valid state- or government-issued driver’s license beyond a learner’s-permit level. In some cases, a driver must possess an NHRA competition license. Most street vehicles must meet basic safety criteria, while faster, high-performance racecars must meet more stringent requirements as outlined throughout the NHRA Rulebook.

Island Drag Racing Association Welcome to the Web-Site of the ISLAND DRAG RACING ASSOCIATION The I.D.R.A. was formed ten years ago to further the sport of E.T. Bracket racing on North/Central Vancouver Island. Our race venue is Saratoga Speedway near Black Creek B.C., half way between Courtenay and Campbell River. While only 330' in length the track boasts a fully electronic, computerized Chrondek timing system and a full length concrete surface. This allows racers to hone their skills on the 'tree' and the super sticky surface is ideal for chassis tuning. Timing slips are issued showing the drivers reaction time, 60' time, elapse time, MPH and margin of victory (MOV). Let's face it in E.T. bracket racing (handicap start) most races are decided at the tree or in the first 60'. The rest of the normally quarter mile race tests the durability of the race vehicle. All racer's are welcome to compete in any of our 2006 - NAPA, Quality Foods, Kyte Delivery point series race events. We especially encourage beginners to come out and participate in this form of Drag Racing. I.D.R.A. membership ($25.00) is required to qualify for points and year-end prizes. There will be two classes in 2006..... PRO class for vehicles 5.49 and quicker and STREET class for vehicles 5.50 and slower.
