Welcome to Leslie Webb Dressage!
About me and my homepage
As a Colorado native I spent hours in my youth riding through the mile-high countryside (mostly bare-back) with few fences to close me in. As I look back now, this was the beginning of my riding career. As a teenager I spent my time riding hunters and jumpers as well as catch riding for my trainer. This gave me experience riding different types of horses under different situations. In 1978 I changed disciplines and started my career in Dressage. During this time I was fortunate to meet Erich Bubbel, a retired Olympic coach and an extremely talented trainer of International Dressage horses. I decided to move to California to focus on my time with Erich. He took me under his wing and devoted his last 12 years teaching me everything he knew. This is where I developed my training systems for both horse and rider and also led to my award winning skills in the competition arena. Looking into the future is what dressage riders and trainers must do. It takes up to 8 years to train a horse to the Olympic Grand Prix level and even longer to train a rider to compete on these talented Grand Prix horses. There is no better time than now to teach our junior and young riders. I want to teach these talented riders by giving them my all, showing them on young, talented, up and coming horses that I am preparing for their competition careers. I offer them a full scale training center close to an affordable college so that these riders can continue their all-important college education. The future is in the young - our gifted

Dressage Team
The University of Massachusetts Dressage Team is a self-funded team of riders whose goals include improving and expanding their knowledge and abilities in the sport of Dressage, gaining positive showing experiences, and working together as a team to meet these goals. Dressage is considered the "ballet" version of riding, due to its elegance and grace. Dressage riders strive to achieve perfect harmony with their horse through communication, partnership, and correctness in their riding. Riders aim to make their horses supple, consistent, and attentive to their every move. Tryouts are held at the beginning of every fall semester to create a new team for the upcoming show season. Tryouts are open to any UMass student enrolled in one of the one credit riding classes offered through the Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, in addition to meeting the requirements set out for each of the competitive levels. The team practices every Monday night throughout the semester and is coached by Suzanne Mente . Ms. Mente is a member of the Veterinary and Animal Sciences faculty and teaches the intermediate level riding classes. The goals of team practice include riding accurately with the horses on the aids, and getting students accustomed to riding unfamiliar horses well. At IDA competitions students compete on horses they have never ridden before; team members need to have the ability to interpret many different types of horses. By building teamwork and camaraderie we strive to remain competitive in the Northeast Region of the IDA, where UMass was reserve champion in 2002.

Dressage for Children
By: Editors of Dressage Today magazine Question : My 6-year-old daughter would like to start riding. Could you give me any tips on how to teach dressage to kids? I want her to develop a basic dressage seat. I do have a small (15.2-hand), quiet warmblood that's trained to Third Level and is also familiar with the longe line. Ponies are also available at our barn. Laura Griffin
Asheville, North Carolina Deborah Lockemeyer's Answer : How wonderful you are starting your daughter's riding experience in dressager. Teaching her a dressage seat from the beginning will give her the basic tools to progress in many equine disciplines. The equitation pyramid found in the USDF Training Manual is a concise guide to developing dressage riders and parallels the Pyramid of Training used for developing horses. The values espoused in the equitation pyramid are interdependent and can be revisited at every stage as you work your way up the pyramid. It’s a valuable guide for dressage riders at every level to gauge the quality of their progress.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia   (Redirected from Grand Prix Dressage Jump to: navigation search An upper-level dressage competitor performing an extended trot Dressage (pronounced /ˈdrɛsɑːʒ/ or /drɨˈsɑːʒ/ ) (a French term, most commonly translated to mean "training") is a path and destination of competitive horse training , with competitions held at all levels from amateur to the Olympics . Its fundamental purpose is to develop, through standardized progressive training methods, a horse's natural athletic ability and willingness to perform, thereby maximizing its potential as a riding horse . At the peak of a dressage horse's gymnastic development, it can smoothly respond to a skilled rider's minimal aids by performing the requested movement while remaining relaxed and appearing effortless. Dressage is occasionally referred to as "Horse Ballet ". Although the discipline has ancient roots, dressage was first recognized as an important equestrian pursuit in Europe during the Renaissance . The great European riding masters of that period developed a sequential training system that has changed little since then. Classical dressage is still considered the basis of trained modern dressage.
