Be sure to bring your camera - flying a hawk is the experience of a lifetime!
Our aim is to share with you the pleasure and excitement of falconry, a fascination that has enthralled people for 4,000 years. We specialise in teaching private falconry sessions using our beautiful Harris hawks, but in addition to hawks the school is home to a variety of other Birds Of Prey, all of which have been specially bred in captivity and are flown free daily. This exclusive collection of birds of prey is not on view to the public and the school is open by appointment only, however, bookings can usually be accommodated at a moment's notice. Under the shelter of the magnificent woodlands surrounding the school, falconry can be booked whatever the weather. Falconry is an ancient art, reputed to be the oldest sport in the world. Originating in the Far East around 2000BC, as a means of catching food for yourself and your family, falconry spread Westwards reaching the shores of Europe long before the end of the first Millennium.

A BriefHistory of Falconry.
At the Abu Dhabi Symposium on Falconry: a World Heritage in September 05experts on many aspects of falconry met and gave presentations on their various specialities. Falconry from all regions of the world was represented and many exiting facts came up that were previously unknown to those of us restricted to learning from our own compatriots and from books written in our own language. Here is a short summary from a laymans point of view. My apologies to those countries whose names and histories do not appear, the number of experts that were able to attend the symposium was sadly limited. A significant problem with recorded history is that history can only be recorded where records exist. We are certain the origins of falconry go back much further than the origins of writing because the earliest written records found describe a highly organised and technical falconry that must have taken many hundreds, if not thousands of years to evolve to that level of sophistication. Many experts present at the Symposium are engaged in almost full-time research into this very elusive subject.

Definition falconry is the art and practice of taking wild quarry in it's natural state using a trained raptor. falconry is not an easy thing to practice.
http://falconry.aaronsworld.com/falconry.html
Definition Falconry is the art and practice of taking wild quarry in it's natural state using a trained raptor. Falconry is not an easy thing to practice. It requires a substantial amount of time and energy from the person who wishes to become a falconer. That said... It is something that few people ever experience and is an awesome hobby to have.
Birds of Falconry There are many different types of birds used in Falconry. The three main categories of raptors are Falcons, Hawks, and Eagles. In the United States, Falconry is heavily regulated and requires the Falconer to go through a Sponsorship program. In the regulations three classes determine what types of birds may be kept as well as how many may be kept at any one time. The three classes are: Apprentice (2 years), General (5 years), and Master. I will do my best to describe and show pictures for birds that I have seen flown and used in Falconry. Hawks generally refer to both Buteos and true hawks (Accipiters). The main birds used in Falconry are: Redtailed Hawk ( Buteo Jamicainsis
Harris Hawk ( Parabuteo unicinctus Goshawk ( Accipiter gentilus
Coopers Hawk ( Accipiter cooperii
Sharp-shinned Hawk ( Accipiter striatus Peregrine Falcon ( Falco peregrinus
Gyrfalcon ( Falco rusticolus
Prairie Falcon (Falco mexicanus)
Merlin ( Falco columbarius
American Kestrel ( Falco sparverius Aplomado Falcon ( Falco femoralis Golden Eagle (Aquila chrysaetos)
The Sport The term "sport" may not describe what many people consider falconry to be. Falconry can be divided up into several areas or stages. Like many things that are highly specialized, there are many words and terms that are used in the practice of falconry that are not seen in everyday language. Trapping, manning, training, entering, hunting, molting.....

WELCOME TO HAWKMASTERS
The Dutch hood we make for you is triple stitched with waxed linen thread, a thin piece of leather is placed over the stitching to both restrict light leaks and hold the hood together. Stitching that is not sealed will, in time, allow light to leak through. Leather by nature has a tendency to shrink and pull with moisure thus shortening the life of your hood. Our hoods are made from the finest garmet grade kangaroo legally harvested from Australia. They are dyed and hand finished with a moisure resistant coating. Traces are sewn "genuine" Gortex or kangaroo. Lizard skin eye pieces upon request.

Falconry
is the 2000 debut album by the Slechtvalk . This album was a sole effort of the musician Shamgar who played all the instruments and programmed the drums. The style is closer to more traditional, raw quality black metal with some symphonic elements, however, with inspirational lyrics. The album made Shamgar quite well-known in the Dutch metal scene as the album was positively received by the press. He eventually pursued to turn Slechtvalk from solo project to a full band.

Falconry is the art of hunting falcons at natural quarry in a wild environment. Falconry is not what you might see at a local display, or falconry centre, although the people who display may well be falconers. Those who hunt with short-wings or the true hawks are austringers. However, they are often called falconers. Confused! Welcome to falconry. Hopefully you will find this domain useful and informative, perhaps even less confusing than the opening statement suggests. Please appreciate that you can not hope to be a successful austringer or falconer without a mentor. Unless of course you are totally oblivious or unconcerned about spoiling a few good hawks in the process. This domain is aimed at experienced exponents of falconry and those who wish to take a look and think about the prospects of taking up the sport. The fickle and ill informed buy a hawk and try to learn afterwards. The result is a prolific amount of harris hawks up for sale, unwanted, spoilt and miserable because their owners did not research their needs before buying. Writing this is unlikely to change anything because the fickle dont read first. However, when you see a cheap hawk for sale, you need to stop and think about the owner.

    Skyhigh Falconry
The Largest Travelling Display of Birds of Prey in the UK Falconry There is no hard evidence as to exactly when and where man first trained a bird of prey, but the art of falconry was already well established in the far and middle east by 2000bc. In more recent history it was reputedly the favourite sport of every king and Queen in England and Scotland, between Alfred the Great and George III. Falconry is still alive and well in Scotland today. Skyhigh Falconry was founded by Alan Rothery a passionate and dedicated falconer, as well as a sentient conservationist, who lives and breathes with his birds in one of the most beautiful, unspoilt parts of Scotland. Skyhigh Falconry offers bird of prey demonstrations and displays for events large and small throughout the UK. Alternatively individuals and small groups a unique opportunity to spend time with a falconer and his birds. The ethos behind Skyhigh Falconry is to promote and preserve the art of falconry and birds of prey for future generations. Education through entertainment.
