To install the button cell batteries unscrew the cap and slide out the battery holder. Install three batteries (LR1142) with the positive side facing up towards the opening. Re-install the battery holder. Screw the cap back in (be careful not to cross thread the cap, it should turn smoothly and easily). Tighten the cap until it is snug and can't turn any more. Don't over-tighten! To save battery life when not in use remove 1 battery or replace rubber ring spacer under the top battery.. When batteries are first installed the ALL light initializes by first blinking red / green / blue / off. Change batteries if this happens in the middle of changing patterns or modes..

Crocheted footbag A footbag is both a small, round bag, and the term for the various sports played with one - characterized by controlling the bag by using one's feet. Although often referred to generically as a Hacky Sack , that is the trademarked name of one specific brand. Footbag-like activities have existed for many years. There are documented examples like Wu Style Tai Chi Chuan practice and policemen are seen playing it using a shuttlecock in the 1955 movie To Catch a Thief , but the current western incarnation of the sport was invented in 1965 by Mike Marshall and John Stalberger of Oregon City Oregon with the Hacky Sack , the rights to which are now owned by Wham-O . In the United States, the game was popularized at Grateful Dead concerts in the 1980s.

On college campuses everywhere, students can be seen kicking around a colorful, small, leather ball stuffed with plastic pellets.
The Hacky Sack was invented in 1972 when John Stalberger met Mike Marshall and observed him kicking around a handmade beanbag. Stalberger believed the beanbag would be beneficial as physical therapy for his football-injured knee and began using it. The two created a game called Hack the Sack in which they kicked the beanbag back and forth without it hitting the ground. Seeing the potential appeal of the game, they trademarked the name "Hacky Sack" and began marketing the toy across the United States. Marshall died of a heart attack in 1975 at the age of 28 but Stalberger moved forward and formed the National Hacky Sack Association which established official rules and helped to control the growth of the fledgling sport. In 1983, Stalberger sold the rights to the Hacky Sack to the Wham-o Manufacturing Company and the popularity of the toy exploded. Aided by the National Hacky Sack Association, the game evolved into an official sport called footbag. Combining elements of volleyball, tennis and badminton, players attempted to kick the ball back and forth over a five-foot high net. A variation of the original concept of Hacky Sack (which many called Freestyle Footbag) remained popular as performers kicked the ball in the air accompanied by background music and choreographed different tricks and maneuvers. An official rules committee has been developed (the International Footbag Committee) to govern the competitive sport.

Back in 1972 John "Stally" Stalberger, along with Mike Marshall, started "hackin' the sack", an activity that would eventually lead to the development of the first footbag, the two-panel "Hacky Sack". In tribute, thirty-five years later we have split that famous two-panel design in half to create the sand-filled Stally® footbag. This four-panel inter-weaving design fuses functionality with style, and of course is one of the most stallable footbags on the market today...and at five bucks it's cheaper than the original Hacky Sack price back in the 1970's! Objective Edit
The objective of hacky sack is to get high. It is necessary to play the game while high because otherwise it is really boring (like a Grateful Dead concert). It also helps to be in college.
            History Edit
Because the people who play hacky sack can't remember the last five minutes, the history of the game is rather irrelevant. However, it is important to note that the first "foot scrotums" were actually a single moose testicle (having been removed from the moose). The cheerful yarn covering was later added because kicking around a bare moose testicle was, "A complete drag, man."so if you dont hack you arent high. And if your not high, your not a hippie. Therefore you cant hacky sack.
            Rules Edit
Having conducted an interview while researching this entry, I will simply quote one John "PeaceDude" Fairchild: "Rules are for the MAN! Hacky sack is about cooporation and good times. Rules kill our inner butterfly..." At this point, PeaceDude offered me a hit and commented on how pretty the leaves were.
