Games Calendars
There are numerous games calendars in existence. None seems to include every games, the amount of detail varies by calendar and individual games, and information sometimes conflicts. Which calendar you should use probably depends on your interests - are you going as a spectator? an athlete? as a member of a clan? Perth Highland Game s w ill be held on Sunday 15th August 2010
Perth Highland Games have grown from strength to strength and are now one the most popular venues on the Highland Games circuit which runs from May to mid September each year. The traditional events performed by the heavyweight athletes are throwing weights for distance and height, throwing the hammer and tossing the caber which are always very popular events. In addition to those events there is highland dancing running for adults and youths, cycling solo piping , and very popular pipe band contest with a large number of overseas bands taking part. While there is some old records which show that Highland Games were held in Perth many years ago, the Games were revived in 1977 by a committee of the Perth Junior Chamber. After a very successful first year, the games are now run by a small committee which was set up for this purpose from a small group of local people interested in the Games and assistance during games week by a group of volunteers. The Committee are always interested to hear from anyone who is willing to assist and provide financial assistance for the Games. Interested parties should contact the Secretary Andrew Rettie at 24 Florence Place, Perth. PH1 5BH

Scottish Festivals and Highland Games
Each year Clan Carmichael USA is present at numerous Scottish Festival and Highland Games events, as a Clan representative, as a sponsor, and as a participant. Scroll down below to see a list of Scottish Festival and Games events around the US, where you can find a Clan Carmichael tent and a warm welcome (the picture above is from the 2006 Texas Scottish Festival and Highland Games). In addition to clan tents, these family oriented festivals typically feature Scottish music, dancing, food, dogs, vendors, and Highland Games. What are Scottish or Highland Games? The following are some of the modern day competition events that you might see at any of the many Scottish Highland Games around the United States. These competitions require great strength, agility and endurance of the athletes competing for honors and prizes.
  • Caber toss - Flipping a 15 to 20 foot tree trunk weighing about 100 lbs. end over end. Sheaf toss - Tossing a 15 or 20 lb. bale of straw for height over a crossbar with a pitchfork.

We will be featuring a special salute to the men and women of the Canadian Navy and we hope you can join us celebrating their past, present and future achievements.

Celebrate the Scottish culture and heritage of the Ottawa Valley at the 27th annual North Lanark Highland Games in Almonte, on Saturday, August 21st, 2010. Our games are held in the historic town of Almonte at the beautiful old grounds of the North Lanark Agricultural Society on the banks of Ontario's Mississippi River.
The Games offer a traditional format and size attracting about 6,000 visitors. Twenty pipe bands, a hundred dancers and champion heavyweight athletes combine to present what is recognized as one of the Ottawa valley's premier summer events.
With mini games organized for kids and the picturesque Mississippi as the backdrop, the Almonte games have a reputation not only as having the prettiest site but also as being the friendliest games on the Ontario circuit.
The grounds feature numerous Scottish concessions, where visitors may obtain traditional clothing, Scottish food, refreshments, souvenir items, crafts, and genealogical information.
