I am a forty five-year-old nurse. In the summer of 98, I brought my first recumbent bicycle a Maxxam Reveille. It is a long wheel base (LWB) above the seat steering (ASS) recumbent. (Pictured below) More pictures of it are at http://www.mcs.net/~gkpsol/jwilliams.html I acquired a Linear Sonic short wheel based (SWB) recumbent in Feb. of 99 The main focus of this WebSite is the construction of the full fairing for the Sonic. I got a great deal of help from The Chicagoland Recumbent Riders WebSite. Ed Gin a member of this club conducts seminars on how to build a fairing using coraplast. Me riding the fully faired Sonic Coraplast is a lightweight plastic material that is corrugated like cardboard. It is very light and reasonably strong. Coraplast can be obtained at you are local plastic supplier, or sign shop. Campbell's sign shop in Calcutta Ohio is my local supplier. The price of coraplast varies so when you read Ed's supply list it is only an estimate of the price. The cheapest I can get coraplast for here is 15 dollars a four by eight sheet. THE PROBLEM The basic problem with most of todays personal transport options is one thing - MASS. Every day 66% of car journeys under 6 km in distance are taken by just one person. This seems incredible especially when drawn to the fact that the driver only makes up 5-10% of the total mass being transported! So why do we use a 1500kg machine to transport one person such short distances? Is it for convenience sake? It makes as much sense as using a pile driver to crack open a nut! Urban traffic in most large citys (and lots of smaller ones) is being reduced to a crawl, main roads and arterial routes are choked the problem just seems to get bigger, traveling times get longer, parking becomes a nightmare, pollution increases. My vision is a response to these and other problems, I wish to see a more balanced and sustainable approach to personal transport. A vehicle not to replace the automobile but to compliment it, a vehicle practical enough to use everyday.

Recumbent Benifits It is also easy to ride in windy conditions, as it is more aerodynamic because you are laid flat unlike the normal bike in an upright position. If you want to make it more aerodynamic you have the option of adding a fairing or a full body shell. Environmentally the Recumbent bicycle is excellent The Recumbent does not use fuel (apart from calories). The Bicycle does not create greenhouse gasses.
