The Mountain Gallery is a site dating back from 1995 that featured photographs I made in the mountains of Europe and North America while I was climbing or mountaineering. It is a portraiture of these activities, as well as of incredibly beautiful places. This site was recently expanded with a fifth section about more gentle mountain adventures such as backpacking and paddling.

Scottish Climbing Archive
The Scottish Climbing Archive is a free web-based resource aimed at climbers, hillwalkers and outdoor enthusiasts who either live in the UK or are planning to visit Scotland. We currently publish information on Mountaineering Hillwalking in Scotland and more general/narrative articles on climbing and Scottish climbing areas. There are also some articles about safety on the hills and the Scottish weather . On that note, we're also trying to compile a list of mountain routes you can climb in the rain On the right hand side of most pages you should find links to other pages in the website that are related to whichever page you're reading. Normally this will be pages about places in the same "region" but sometimes it will be by category instead.

We have lots of diverse information about places to climb in Scotland and the UK with a focus on the middle and lower grades.

Ice Climbing
Not long ago the general perception was that Adirondack winters were to be endured, not enjoyed, but due to advances in gear and clothing, ice climbing is surging in popularity. Unlike snow conditions that tend to fluctuate from year to year, Adirondack ice reliably begins to take shape in late November and stays true to form throughout the month of March. Our ice instruction/guiding is available for individuals of all levels and abilities. For those that are new to the sport or lack their own equipment, we provide all the technical gear needed including double plastic boots. Clients meet at our lodge at 8:30 a.m. and lunches are provided for all non-group sessions. We recommend dressing in layers including wool or synthetics, shelled gloves, wool mitts and socks, a wool hat and some form of an outer shell layer. We also recommend that people bring a large daypack, water bottle/thermos , ski goggles and camera if desired. Winter days can be cold so please prepare accordingly!

Ice Climbing NPS photo by Ed Lasich Ice curtains near Sand Point Road Ice climbing is becoming a popular winter sport within the Lakeshore. With ample lake effect snow, numerous waterfalls, porous sandstone cliffs, and the water which seeps out of the rock layers, curtains and columns of ice are common.
Snow and ice are generally present by the second or third week in December and remain until late March. While ice frequently forms along the Pictured Rocks cliffs above Lake Superior, these areas are not recommended for climbing due to hazardous exposure to the lake.
The most accessible ice columns are found along the Pictured Rocks escarpment between Munising Falls and Sand Point along Sand Point Road.
Sand Point columns and blue ice curtains are 20-50 feet high. Parking is located at Sand Point Beach or at Munising Falls. The Sand Point Road is narrow with no shoulder; therefore, parking is prohibited along Sand Point Road.
Please note that Munising Falls is closed to ice climbing.

Mike Barter I just want to say thank you to those who have generously made a donation to the Mike Barter video series. It is with your help that I can find the time and motivation to continue making these videos. Any and all donations go directly to the production of new videos. After all this is a one person out of pocket adventure in new media. This is where the audience can donate to a cause if they feel they are getting value from the product.
So whats new with the Mike barter climbing videos. For one thing we are now moving all of the videos on climbing over to itunes. This means that you can now download the training videos onto your ipod and take them to the climbing gym. We will be to shooting more exercise videos to sharpen your mountain/cragging rescue skills.
