RYP Testimonials
What is the essence of a professional mountain guide? Experience, integrity, knowledge, and safety. Ron Brunckhorst has been my climbing guide for three years. With safety as an emphasis, I have enjoyed rock and ice climbing as well as successful alpine climbs. If you are looking for a rewarding mountaineering experience, look no further than Reach Your Peak. Randy L. Pickering
Bozeman, MT So you are looking for a climbing guide. There are some things you should consider other than just cost. For example, anyone can call them self a climbing guide and take you out climbing. How long have they been doing this and do they have any certification if they are just getting started? Their experience is your safety! Have they had any accidents or "incidents"? Sure, nothing is 100% safe about climbing and I am here not to kid you about it! Real climbing guides know how to use proficient techniques that most climbers of today do not. Here are the bare bones of Reach Your Peak. This is where I, Ron Brunckhorst will let you know what I am about and why you should book me as your guide. First, I am a climbing guide, with 25 years of experience, and am an individual member of the American Mountain Guides Association since the mid 1990's. What does that mean? This means I was recommended to AMGA and proved that I had guided a number of years on respectable routes and climb at a high standard. I have operated Reach Your Peak since 1991, twice as long as any other guide service in Montana. I have a perfect safety record with no incidences, which just does not happen by luck. There is a lot of "know how" that goes into keeping large safety margins.

Email me if you any projects that could use my assistance. Current Open Source projects I'm the primary maintainer of are DejaGnu , the GNU regression testing framework, and Nilo , the GNU network boot loader. I live a few miles outside of the town of Nederland , at the gateway to the Indian Peaks Wilderness, and surrounded by Roosevelt National Forest. Nederland's a town of about 1500 people 20 miles west of Boulder at about 8236 feet. I have a great view of the Continental Divide from here, it's only walking distance away. :-) Here's a few pictures of my house if you want to see what it looks like. For those that must see what I look like, here's a fairly recent picture.

Ari Paulin I've previously written about my search for perfect alpine pack. To summarize, what I was was looking for is a pack small enough to actually climb with, yet large enough to carry a tent, sleeping bag, pad and few days worth of food on top of all the gear needed for technical climbing in mixed alpine terrain during the approach. So somwehere around 40 liters with a possibility to overpack. Featurewise, some things I was looking for:
  • Lean-and-mean single compartment design Reasonably durable fabrics Low weight Side attachments for ice tools Strap for rope Floating lid for overpacking
The search is over, I decided on Cold Cold World pack made by Randy Rackliff. Mine is a custom model that is somewhat smaller than standard Chernobyl . Size aside, the other customizations include:

Trip reports and photos from alpine climbing in the Canadian Rockies and Mount Rainier; and ice climbing and scrambles in the Canadian Rockies.

About Me About Me Calgary Calgary ...
think.

Welcome to Dave's Place Welcome to my website. Back in mid-1997, I created this website in order to share information. I use to live in western Canada and my friends and family lived in the eastern U.S., so this was the easiest way to tell everyone what I was up to.
It all started when I moved up there. I wanted to continue playing in my old company football pool, so I put that up here. Then I decided to add a "Scrambling" section which shows pictures and routes of a favourite mountain activity. Most of my friends have never seen the Rocky Mountains, so this was a great way to share that experience with them. Then my mom kept asking for pictures of Calgary. She had never been here and wanted to see it. That led to the "Calgary" section. Eventually, I decided to expand my audience to the rest of the world. After all, it is the "world wide web," not the "friends wide web."
After I changed my audience to the entire world, my website started to grow significantly. If I came across something I thought someone else could use, I added it. That's why I have my cookbook and computer resources section. I even expanded the scrambling section to help other people see what they are getting into. And for those who don't know me, there is the "about me" section which gives you a very detailed idea of who I am.
After scrambling for a while, I decided to take up alpine and ice climbing. That of course, led to the those two sections, and then I decided to add some fun to my website, and that's what led to the "fun and games" section.

Ice Rock Snow ... Other ICE

I have had the great fortune to twice climb in Alaska, both times with John Bradford, a widely respected climber, guide and good friend. My first trip in March 2001 was a 10-day affair, visiting five areas and climbing multiple routes. I returned in March 2002 to again head into the Chugach Range, hunting for beautiful and remote ice. Both trips are collected here.
updated: 3/27/02; two trips
In early-January 2000 I headed back up to the Whites to do some ice climbing with International Mountain Climbing School. The ice was a little thin and I was a little under the weather, but we still managed to get up a few routes and I had a lot of fun. A year later I returned with Brian Connors to climb some moderate classics and attempt a ski tour and descent over Martin Luther King Jr. Weekend. Now that was an interesting trip. The following February Brian and I went back up to Crawford Notch to attempt a gully route on Mt. Webster. We made two relatively successful trips in the lean Winter of 2002. We came back when it was a little fatter in 2003. There were solo trips here and there, and some good times together again in 2005. All 10 trip reports are collected here.
