Indeed, jai alai Basque for "merry festival" can be decidedly un-merry on a bad point. Said Buddy Berenson, son of Richard Berenson who promoted the sport as a gambling alternative, "Whenever a player is hit, the others rush up trying to laugh it off and praying for the sight of blood," ...and a pulse.
