How to Play Photos Videos Story 1 ... Requirements More Links Addicting Games Funny Games Origin: The game is essentially an Indian one, though there is no clear-cut evidence about its origin. The game of kabaddi is in existence for over 4000 years. The historian’s surmise is that the game might have developed during prehistoric times when man was forced to defend himself from sudden attacks from ferocious beasts. They used to form groups of individuals and attack the animal. There is also another school of thought, more particularly, in India, which believes that the game might have emerged from the battle of “Kurukshetra”, a very absorbing episode exceptionally told in one of the famous Indian epics, “Mahabharatha”. (It is in this historic battlefield, Lord Krishna, acting as a charioteer to Arjuna gave to this world one of the best magnum opus ever, “The Bhagavat Gita”). In that particular episode, Arjuna’s son, Abhimanyu who ran out of archery supplies was engaged in a fierce battle with a set of 7 fighters. They skillfully defended themselves by instituting a difficult blockade called “Chakravyuha” (It resembles a chariot wheel).

Kabaddi Kabaddi is one of the popular game among the peoples of Asia, especially in the villigers of India,Pakistan ,Bangladesh ,Sri Lanka ,Nepal and Japan. Some people think that it is an Indian game but the reality is that no one really knows about the origin of this game. Some historian believe that it is about 4,000 year old game. This game involve skills and powers of two teams and combines the characteristics of wrestling and rugby. It was originally meant to develop self defence, in addition to responses to attack, and reflexes of counter attack by individuals, and by groups or teams. It is a rather simple and inexpensive game, and neither requires a massive playing area, nor any expensive equipment. This explains the popularity of the game in rural areas. Kabaddi is played all over Asia with minor variations. A Kabaddi match in progress Kabaddi is also known by various names viz . Chedugudu or Hu-Tu-Tu in southern parts of India, Hadudu (Men) and Chu - Kit-Kit (women) in eastern India, and Kabaddi in northern India. The Game In Kabaddi, two teams compete with each other for higher scores, by touching or capturing the players of the opponent team. Each team consists of 12 players, of which seven are on court at a time, and five in reserve. The two teams fight for higher scores, alternating defence and offense. The court is as large as that for a dodge ball game. The game consists of two 20 minute halves, with a break of five minutes for change of sides.

Rules of Kabaddi History of Kabaddi Kabaddi in Asian Games
"Kabaddi, Kabaddi, Kabaddi, Kabaddi...." Got a bunch of people, a big open space and nothing else? How about a round of Kabaddi? Kabaddi is a game of speed, strength, strategy and, most importantly, lungpower. First you’ll need twenty-four people split into two teams of twelve. Only seven players per team are on the playing field at the same time. The remaining teammates are reserves that can "sub in" later. The two teams go to opposite sides of the field, which is divided in two equal sections. Flip to see who goes first. That team starts out on offense and the two teams alternate offense/defense each turn until the game is over. Here’s where it gets interesting. The offending team sends out their "raider" to the enemy side of the field, where he must try to touch as many opposing teammates as possible before returning safely to his side of the court. The catch? He must do all of this while yelling "Kabaddi, Kabaddi, Kabaddi, Kabaddi..." repeatedly and in one long breath. And the best part is: we're not making this up! This is a REAL SPORT!

Virtual Bangladesh : Sports : Kabaddi
Kabaddi is the national sport of Bangladesh. In Kabaddi, two teams compete with each other for higher scores, by touching or capturing the players of the opponent team. Each team consists of 12 players, of which seven are on court at a time, and five in reserve. The two teams fight for higher scores, alternating defence and offense. The court is as large as that for a dodge ball game. The game consists of two 20 minute halves, with a break of five minutes for change of sides.
The kabaddi playing area is 12.50m x 10m, divided by a line into two halves. The side winning the toss sends a 'raider', who enters the opponents' court chanting, 'kabaddi-kabaddi'. The raider's aim is to touch any or all players on the opposing side, and return to his court in one breath. The person, whom the raider touches, will then be out. The aim of the opposing team, will be to hold the raider, and stop him from returning to his own court, until he takes another breath. If the raider cannot return to his court in the same breath while chanting 'kabaddi', he will be declared out. Each team alternates in sending a player into the opponents' court. If a player goes out of the boundary line during the course of the play, or if any part of his body touches the ground outside the boundary, he will be out, except during a struggle.

Kho Kho and Kabaddi , in spite of popular misconception, are not the same. In Kho-Kho, one team sits or kneels in the middle of the court, in a row, with alternate members in the row facing opposite directions. The other team may send two or three members in the court. The motive for the sitting team is to try to "tag" the opponents. The chasers can only run in one direction and cannot cut across the sitters (unlike the dodgers who can run randomly and in between the sitters). They have to run round the entire row to reach the other side. The other option is to pass the chasing job to another sitter whose back is facing the chaser as the chaser is running. In this option, the chaser touches the sitter he wants (usually nearest to the target) and shouts "kho" to signify the change of guard. The objective is to tag all the opponents in the shortest time possible. The team that takes the shortest time to tag all the opponents in the field, wins.

http://zilly.smugmug.com/gallery/15932
Photo Sharing Login Help Jeff Xilon (Zilly) ... Events Asian Games: Kabaddi This was another unique sport I witnessed at the Busan Asian Games. This one is from India and is truly a unique one. Its like tag plus redrover plus an endurance competion plus human dodge ball.
Its a little difficult to explain but you have a three part court. Each team has a quarter of the court as their zone and the middle is neutral ground. One team sends a player into the other teams zone. His job is to tag as many opposing players while saying "kabadi kabadi kabadi..." and get back cross the middle line. If he makes it back any tagged players are off the court. If the other team can capture him in their zone he mus leave the court. I think that if he tags players and makes it to neutral ground but not across the middle line he and the tagged players must leave.
Anyway, it was very interesting and I enjoyed watching it quite a bit. We saw two matches, India vs. Bangledash and Pakistan vs. Sri Lanka. I don't know if any of you will ever have a chance to see it but if you do don't miss it! *** Anyone who has found this site while searching for information or pictures of Kabaddi - please enjoy and please, look around the rest of the site too. gallery pages: 1 of 32 Whent a match begins and the teams are at full strength getting in and out of the opponents quarter successfully is quite a challenge.
