Rebuilding October 15th, 2010 Posted in General New Book: The Way to Black Belt January 17th, 2008 Fast becoming one of my favourite martial arts authors is Sensei Kris Wilder, author of Lessons from the Dojo Floor and The Way of Sanchin Kata , co-author with Lawrence Kane of The Way of Kata , and guest on Episode 004 of The Applied Karate Show podcast. Together with Lawrence Kane, Kris has released a fascinating book called The Way to Black Belt , a fascinating exploration of what it takes to become a black belt, looking at all aspects of mind, body and spirit. The book covers a huge variety of facets of martial training to reach the level of black belt, including dojo training and all the extra curricular development activities. In their exploration, Messrs Kane and Wilder have shown that karate, pursued fully, is a total exploration of mind, body and spirit, and that attitude and mindset are the vital foundations for true achievement. I highly recommend the book, and not just because they authors were kind enough to give a mention and link to The Applied Karate Show podcast.

As of October 24, 2010 we have raised nearly $60,000 to get the Kick For Cures off to an amazing start. This years goal is to raise $125,000 by the end of the year. One ISKC Student, Rollin Burkett, led the way by raising $6,225. Nathan Agno was not far behind raising over $3,000. Danny Friedman and Joel Schleicher have raised over $1,000.We are very excited about the dedication many of the students are showing by supporting the Kick For Cures. It's not too late to participate the Kick For Cures will continue online through the end of the year. You can signup for a sponsor page by going to www.kickforcures.com . ISKC takes Gold in Greenville More than 130 ISKC students set out on a mission this summer as they traveled to the small town of Greenville, SC for the 2010 USA Karate National tournament. Their mission was to conquer their opponents to earn the title of National Champion. Many of these students accomplished this goal, with ISKC bringing home a grand total of 135 medals. The 2010 USA Karate Nationals began the morning of Thursday, July 8 and lasted until the following Sunday evening. The four days were filled with intense competition and numerous victories. Some of the greatest victories came from ISKC's junior athletes who claimed 17 spots on the Junior United States Team. These skilled competitors will have the opportunity to travel to Montreal, Canada for the 2010 Junior Pan American Championships this coming August. These athletes include: Alex Diana, Michelle Di Pasquale, Melissa Di Pasquale, Peter Gabriel, Alex Gale Ellora Jaggi, Jason Krol, Eric Krol, Brandon Malone, Marcus Malone, Connor Noda, Earl Osoteo, Camile Papelera, Ethan Pearson, Sarina Robaina, Kelsey Schumann, and Tyler Swanson. Five additional ISKC juniors qualified as team alternates, including: Alysa Berenson, Dominic Matigian, Mateos Matigan, Emily Morgan and Jonathan Peters.
