Kung Fu Chinese kung fu is as much of the culture of China as tea. According to statistics, 100 different styles of Chinese boxing exist. Weaponry includes nine kinds of long weapons and nine short, such as knives, spears, swords, and clubs, which together constitute what is called the "Eighteen Types of Martial Arts." Each style of boxing and weapon-wielding of Chinese kung fu has its own special technique and movements. Traditional Kung Fu
a Martial Arts Display In Chinese kung fu, a distinction is made between external and internal kung fu. In external kung fu, one exercises his tendons, bones, and skin while in internal kung fu one trains his spirit, his ch'i (flow of life energy), and his mind. The older one gets, the more adept one becomes at kung fu because one progresses from movement to stillness and from firmness to softness. In addition, the higher one's level of achievement in kung fu, the better one is at maintaining good health and living a long and active life. The endless variety of styles of Chinese kung fu can be roughly divided into the northern and southern styles and the internal and external styles. Some of the more famous styles include Shaolin (from the name of the temple in Honan where it was developed), tai-chi-chuan (great-limit boxing), Hsing-i (forming an idea), Eight Trigrams, Yung-ch'un (singing of spring), Tantric, and Arhat. Within the Shaolin style of kung fue, there are dragon, tiger, panther, snake, and crane styles of fighting. These substyles

This guide to "Kung Fu", the 1970's television series shown on ABC and produced by Warner Brothers, relates the quotations from the show to the real history of the times and to the philosophy those quotations come from or refer to as it follows the adventures of Kwai Chang Caine played by David Carradine. The site covers a series guide , an overview , the pilot movie , seasons one two three , and notes (including information on the various books written about the show or its subject matter). We also offer a plain version for print outs but it isn't kept up-to-date with changes we make In addition we have an addendum (containing a collection of quotes from the show done by Steve Geller), links to information on the show and China, and its history and philosophy as well as other related resources. Although this website and guide is about the fictional character and world, we are saddened by the recent death of David Carradine who added so much to this series being the classic it is 40 years after the original broadcast If you are looking for tapes/DVDs of the show or where it is playing, check out our

History, articles, pictures, and videoclips about Shaolin Kung Fu, with other Chinese martial arts and weapons.
http://www.kungfufever.com
home home guestbook linx gallery ... sitemap This website is dedicated to the martial arts of China. There are hundreds of different styles of Chinese martial arts, all with their own backgounds, folklore, and characteristics. They can be devided in the modern contemporary styles, called Wu Shu , (which literally means Martial Art) like Chang Quan and Nan Quan , and the traditional styles, called Kung Fu (or Gong Fu ), which means something like 'effort',or 'achievement after using energy'. Then after having made the division between the traditional and the modern styles, it's inevitable to make a difference between the northern- and the southern- chinese styles, where as the northern styles lay an emphasis on the footwork, the southern styles lay more of an emphasis on the hand- and arm-techniques. Therefore the Chinese use the expression : ' Nan Quan, Bei Tuei ', meaning 'Fists of the South, Legs from the North'. Then, to make a final distinction between the different styles, we have to make the division between the 'hard' and the 'soft' styles, like Taiji Quan Baguazhang , and Omei Quan There are too many styles to line them all up here, so we've tried to devide them into different sections, as you can see in the menu.

Vermont Kung Fu Academy is one of the most complete learning centers for Traditional Chinese Martial Arts in the United States. The Academy is located in Essex Junction
http://www.vermontkungfu.com/
Welcome to the Vermont Kung Fu Academy. This site will introduce you to the Academy, and to some of the structure and formality in studying martial arts at the school. The Vermont Kung Fu Academy is one of the most complete learning centers for Traditional Chinese Martial Arts in the United States. The program offered at the Academy incorporates the best of internal and external martial arts, Qi Cultivation and natural healing. The Academy also serves as a bridge crossing a vast ocean, bringing history, traditions and people of diverse cultures together. Building a strong body and clear mind, and learning self-defense skills are at the heart of learning Kung Fu. Kung Fu is also about having the courage to stand on your own two feet, to be responsible, and to cultivate perseverance, discipline and respect. The term Kung Fu literally means "accomplished effort through hard work". As a result, learning Kung Fu will, at times, be easy, and at other times, difficult. There will be peaks when you feel like you've got it all together, and plateaus when you feel that learning is nearly impossible. However, the rewards Kung Fu offers are real, and can change your life in the most positive ways. The instructors and staff at the Vermont Kung Fu Academy are here to help you attain your goals. Sincerely, Sifu Arthur Makaris

The Qui Dynasty is not the beginning of Chinas history, but its emperor Chin united many of the warring states and joined many parts of the Great Wall (built in parts against marauding Hans and Mongolians) entombing up to 300,000 Chinese workers into the wall in the belief that it will be stronger against attackers and invaders. The workers spirits were believed to strengthen the great Wall with their bones and their spirits. (Remember, this is the emperor who created the Terra cotta Warriors at the expense of 700,000 workers)! So it is considered that the Emperor Chin united most of China into one nation during this time of the Qui Dynasty. In an attempt to lengthen his life, Emperor Chin tried many potions and lotions and slowly poisoned himself with a mercury based longevity drug.
