Tour beautiful Newport Harbor and the Back Bay estuary by outrigger canoe! These double-hulled, 16 man boats will make you feel like you're in Hawaii 5-0. Outrigger Canoeing is a great teambuilding program that has everyone paddling together. It's easier than kayaking because when you need a rest the group picks up the slack for you. We start our tours in Newport's Back Bay, a natural estuary and marine sanctuary that is home to scores of birds that make the mud flats their home. From here you will paddle into Newport Harbor, the largest recreational boating harbor in the country. As you paddle through small channels and around islands you will see magnificent celebrity mansions, as well as amazing power boats, sail boats and yachts. It's a great, invigorating way to get out on the water with friends and colleagues and work together to enjoy some amazing sightseeing and beautiful wildlife.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation search Modern sailing outrigger canoe in Hawai i. USA Large passenger-carrying outrigger canoe (bangka), Puerto Galera Philippines The outrigger canoe Filipino and Indonesian bangka Māori waka ama ; Cook Islands Maori: vaka ama; Hawaiian wa a Tahitian vaʻa ) is a type of canoe featuring one or more lateral support floats known as outriggers , which are fastened to one or both sides of the main hull . Smaller canoes often employ a single outrigger on the port side, while larger canoes may employ a single outrigger, double outrigger, or double hull configuration (see also catamaran ). The sailing canoes are an important part of the Polynesian heritage and are raced and sailed in Hawaii and Tahiti Using an outrigger or double hull configuration greatly increases the stability of the canoe, but introduces much less hydrodynamic inefficiency than making a single hull canoe wider. Compared to other types of canoes, outrigger canoes can be quite fast, yet are also capable of being paddled and sailed in rougher water. This paddling technique, however, differs greatly from kayaking or rowing . The paddle , or blade, used by the paddler is single sided, with either a straight or a double-bend shaft. Despite the single paddle an experienced paddler will only paddle on one side, using a technique such as a J-stroke to maintain heading and stability.

“Let this be a place where man may commune with sun and sand and sea, where good fellowship and aloha prevail, and where the sports of old Hawai’i shall always have a home.”
Outrigger Canoe Club 1964 Dedication Plaque In old Hawai’i, every passerby was greeted and offered food whether he was an acquaintance or a total stranger. In our hectic, impersonal world there still exists an oasis of aloha - the Outrigger Canoe Club. The Outrigger Canoe Club is located on the beautiful Pacific Ocean below the slopes of Diamond Head, near Waikiki Beach. This is truly a special place! The Club has provided a haven for the sports of old Hawai'i and today nurtures modern athletic ventures as well.
The Club's location and architectural design provide the perfect venue for casual or elegant dining, fellowship and aloha.
