FOR UPDATED INFORMATION CLICK HERE The USA Federation of Pankration Athlima formed in 1998, to help the progression of Pankration (mixed Martial Arts) in International Competition. Dear Friends and Colleagues
I have retired as the President of USAFPA.
Over the years I've made many friends, had great times and have fond memories of you all . However the time has come for the next generation to take Pankration to the next level, the Olympic Games.
Poor health makes it impractical for me to contribute further at the world level . Mr Dave Sixel will succeed me as the Federation President . Although I will always like to keep in touch with you. In matters of USAFPA you should make your contact with (usafpa PRESIDENT president@usafpa.com
Thank you for your friendship and confidence.
Very Truly Yours
John Townsley When Pankration was accepted as a part of Olympic Wrestling ,it became Greece's gift to the world . However in doing so we also must accept the fact we lost all control of our own future and the control of the Sport.

THE NEW WORLD ORGANIZATION RULES. The rules of any sport always benefit some athletes and hinder others. pankration is no different in this respect.

USAFPA Competition Rules INDEX:

THE NEW WORLD ORGANIZATION RULES
The rules of any sport always benefit some athletes and hinder others. Pankration is no different in this respect. We have athletes who are primarily strikers and kickers. They favor stand up style. We have wrestlers who favor ground-grappling style. Historically both Ano (standup) and Kato (ground grappling) have been an accepted part of Pankration. The rules under which we have competed up until now favored the grappler. The striker/kicker could use only light contact. This made it easy for the grappler to take their opponent to the ground. The striker/kicker now has a 10 count, which will win the match. TKO and KO rules are in effect. All of the head is a target except for the face. A throw that takes the wind as well as kicks and strikes can win a match by a 10 count. This makes it fair and unbiased. Spectators have said unlimited periods of ground grappling make for a boring match. Time on the ground is limited and the athletes will be brought back to their feet. This will encourage greater skill among the grapplers who now must get a submission quickly. Ground time is 30 seconds.

"Pankratiasts...must employ backward falls which are not safe for the wrestler and grips in which victory must be obtained by falling...They must have skill in various methods of strangling; they also wrestle with an opponent's ankle and twist his arm, besides hitting and jumping on him, for all these practices belong to the pankration, only biting and gouging prohibited. The Spartans allow even these practices, but the Eleans and the laws of the games exclude them."

Historia Pankrationu
Autor: admin. W 648 roku p.n.e. pankration został włączony do dyscyplin starożytnej olimpiady. Obecnie można zobaczyć jego powrót w dyscyplinie walki MMA w Japonii.
Dyscyplina sportowa
Autor: admin. Kategorie : Wiadomości komentarze (%) Pankration to starożytna dyscyplina sportowa, w której udział brali wyłącznie mężczyźni. Z czasem została ona włączona jako dyscyplina walki do starożytnych igrzysk olimpijskich. Pankration powstał z połączenia boksu i zapasów.

Ancient Pankration
The Olympic games were eventually adopted and reborn throughout the world alternating the competition in a new country every 4 years, however, Pankration competition was not included. It is only because of the sparse historical records and the special interests of a few individuals that Pankration is having a rebirth in this generation.
Modern Day Pankration
The current wave of "no holds barred" and pay per view fighting events has brought with it a curiosity and interest to it's ancient predecessor Pankration. Just as the boxing venue grew and evolved from ancient Greece to Madison square garden and the rest of the world, the skills, techniques, training methods, rules, attire and safety measures have also evolved. For the most part this evolution has been beneficial to the sport and it's participants. Now after centuries ancient Greek Pankration is getting the opportunity to become Modern Pankrationin the same way as it's brother boxing did.
