Racewalking Few, if any, racewalking events offer more variety to the athlete than this event. Pick your distance - 1500 Meters - 3K - 5K. Each is spaced over this 3-day event to allow you to participate in any or all of these races. To ensure fair competition and to protect the integrity of the sport, proper racewalking techniques are required. Certified race judges are used to help in both areas. However, free daily clinics are offered for anyone new to the sport who wishes to participate and for those competitors who wish to improve their walking technique. Come learn the proper techniques of racewalking at these clinics.

NEW Mission statment NEW N.E.W. MISSION STATEMENT July 26, 2009 Groton MA
The New England Walkers met at Tom Knatt's home in Groton MA and voted to approve the new mission statement. The new mission statement will define the club's philosophy and current practice. NEW ENGLAND WALKER Mission Statement
The mission of New England Walkers is to foster interest, participation, and sustained competitive excellence in the sport of race walking in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire and Vermont. What's NEW? Despite all the publicity about running, there are twice as many people who walk for fitness as do run. According to the Perrier study: Fitness in America, some 17 million people run, while 34 million people walk for fitness. Becoming increasingly popular, race walking is an Olympic sport which produces a high level of fitness and is virtually injury-free. By straightening the knee as the leg passes under the body, body weight is placed on the skeleton which does not tire. Having one foot on the ground at all times allows some body weight to be supported causing less strain on the muscles.

A big advocate of jogging as the ultimate form of exercise, I always thought walking was for those who just didn’t have the stamina for jogging. I was wrong. Walking can give your body just as much or more of a workout as jogging. And it also has the same wonderful health benefits - lowering blood pressure, stabilizing blood sugar, flattening abdomen while strengthening leg muscles, bones, and immune system - but is easier on your joints.
Racewalking can be done by anyone at any age. The only requirement is that you are able to put one foot in front of the other. No need to race or go really fast. As long as you have the technique down, both your upper and lower body will be exercised.
Some comfortable clothes, good tennis shoes, and a strong desire to get in better shape are all that you need.
Did you know that there is more than one way to walk? Pleasure walkers just walk for the pure pleasure of it. No worry about going fast, they just want to enjoy themselves. Nothing wrong with that. Even a little bit of walking is some exercise. There are many different ways to walk for exercise. Some people hike over rough and unsteady terrain. Others powerwalk or speedwalk without any rules as to form or technique. Some combine walking and jogging. Others compete in marathons and walk really long distances. Some walk to raise money for certain causes.

Now you're into the serious stuff - Racewalking! And this means you've already worked your way through Fitness Walking 3 and want to extend yourself further. Right? That's just super. Good for you! Racewalking may just be the thing for you whether being 'speedy' is your thing or not! Read on! NO WAY you say? Hang on. Don't walk away just yet! You can enjoy the technique at whatever speed you want! You can have 'the moves' without the 'zoom' if that works for you. Blow your grandkids away with your moves. They'll love it! And just before you roll over laughing out loud with the thought - you doing that funny 'chicken legs, wildly gyrating hips with flailing arms' thing - check this out. Racewalking actually has evolved into a very fluid, smooth and enjoyable way to walk that actually puts LESS strain on your joints. Regardless of what speed you walk at! And it burns more calories per mile than fitness walking. So you might just want to 'give it a go'. We've included it here for us 'seasoned types' so you can see what it's all about. See if you might want to 'give it a go'. See if you like it. Besides, why should those young 'uns have all the fun?

It descends from the "fair heel and toe" Pedestrians who raced shorter distances and, under slightly different rules, were the basis of the modern day sport of race walking. Race walking is in the sport category of "track and field, long-distance running, and race walking." Race walks are judged events that have two rules.
