Wallyball is very similar to volleyball and is played inside our racquetball courts. Volleyball net is attached in the middle of the court between the side walls, which is adjustable to a lower 5 foot height for younger player's ages 3 and older. Choice of "soft " larger play ball or regular volleyball. Regular court fees apply. No extra charge for net or ball use. Depending on the age and skills, different rules are used. Regular rules are similar to volleyball, except the side walls are playable. Younger and pre-school age players are allowed to let the ball bounce "catch and throw" as needed. Racquetball Racquetball is a fast-paced game that requires endurance, skill and body control. It was developed on a handball court in the early 1950’s by a man named Joe Sobek, who vigorously promoted his game of “paddle racquets” at YMCA’s across the country. But people didn’t really start trading in their handball gloves for racquets until about 1968, when the first National Paddle Rackets Tournament was organized in Milwaukee. That event gave rise to the popularity of the string racquet over the previously used solid-wood style. The following year the International Racquetball Association was formed, and in 1973, a second organization was created to monitor the sport, the U.S. Racquetball Association. Today 9 million amateurs play the game, and 3,500 racquetball facilities dot the Americas, Europe and Japan. Tournaments are conducted worldwide, including at least 20 annual professional competitions. Racquetball aficionados enjoy the sport for its fast-pace and intense workout; it doesn’t take much longer than 30 minutes to get some vigorous exercise. And, unlike tennis, it is a racquet-sport that is not steeped in tradition and formalities. Rather, it is a more casual, though very challenging activity.

    NMRA History
The NMRA was created in 1971, when ten players gathered in New Castle, PA for a fun-time round robin tournament.
This was the first national tournament for players 45+ years of age. Since that first event, the size of the group has exploded to a record high number of male and female members. Each year, the NMRA hosts two major championship tournaments - a National Championship (scheduled in March) and an International Championship (scheduled in July). Competition at all NMRA Championships is offered in singles, doubles and mixed doubles. Divisions are in five-year increments starting with age 45+. All NMRA tournaments are full round-robin format and self-refereed. Our format ensures you are never eliminated from play in an NMRA tournament and that sportmanship and friendship are more important than winning. If you a FIRST TIME player, we do not require you join the NMRA. However, you must be an active member of the USAR National Organization.
