About Us
In April of 2007, Sifu Jay McCoy brought 5 athletes to the U.S. national Championships to compete against our American counterparts. They returned to Canada with two 5th place finishes and three gold medals. Recognizing there potential Sifu Jay organized to bring theses athletes and a three other recruits to the World Championships in China in December that same year. Thus, Natalie Pomerleau-Perron, Laurie MacNevin (nee Gibson), Danielle Mauirie, Jermey Kurcz, Nabil Babu, Jerrett Hansen, John MacNevin and Ernesto Bernal became the first Canadian team. Accompanying them were two of their training partners: Steve Lalla and John Iantisis. Despite being a small team of competitors, this group managed a 6th place finish in their World competition debut, with each of these 8 newcomers placing in the top 8 including a silver medal being awarded to young Jeremy Kurcz.
Currently Team Canada is composed only of students of the International Shuai-Chiao Association- Canadian Chapter. As shuai-chiao gains national recognition Sifu Jay hopes to recruit more athletes from other Kung Fu organizations nationwide. Drawing from a larger pool of athletes to produce a team which fills each of the 20 possible weight and gender divisions, will produce an even more formidable Canadian team; thereby continuing to demonstrate that Team Canada is a force to be reckoned with.

The Real Ch'ang Tung Shen

Ch'ang Shih Tai Chi Ch'uan: The Book

C h'ang's family had a long established tradition of martial arts training. At the age of 12 he began his own training with the highly respected shuai-chiao instructor, Ch'ang Fen Yen, who was the leading disciple of Pin Jin Yi. Ch'ang became the number-one disciple of his teacher, eventually marrying Ch'ang Fen Yen's daughter.
Ch'ang Fen Yen's teaching was traditional and demanding. With him his young student practiced diligently and seriously every day, beginning early a lifelong devotion to shuai-chiao. Some of Ch'ang Fen Yen's teaching methods were unusual, investing the tasks of everyday life with applications for shuai-chiao. For example Ch'ang Fen Yen would often ask his young disciple to bring water from the well near his home. This task involved turning a crank to bring up the rope that held a bucket filled with water, then pouring the water into a large container.

This is evidenced by ancient artwork from cultures around the world, depicting combat through some sort of grappling. Chin Dynasty (246 BC ~ 207 BC): Yuan Dynasty (1277 ~ 1367): The Mongol hordes were the great Asian Conquerors of early history, leaving their mark on cultures from Eastern Europe to the Pacific Ocean. These great conquerors had a nomadic lifestyle that promoted combat skills for all males. Their tribal games revolved around the so-called 3 Masculine Sports: Horsemanship, archery, and wrestling.

Chin Dynasty (246 BC ~ 207 BC)
Shuai-Chiao artwork in ancient record. The earliest recorded dynasty was the Chin (or Qin) Dynasty lasting from 246 BC to 207 BC. It was also the shortest Chinese Dynasty, lasting only during the reign of one monarch - the legendary Chin Shih-Huang Di. Chin Shih-Huang was known for his remarkable cruelty and ironhanded rule. He ordered the first burning of books, the construction of the Great Wall (which protected China's Northern borders from the invasion of barbarians), and the legalist school of Chinese philosophy.
Chin Shih-Huang kept his military strong, and combat training was emphasized during his short reign.
