    SKIBOARD INJURIES
Modern skiboards are best described as mini skis, usually measuring less than one metre from tip to tail. This shorter length allows the skiboarder a greater degree of manoeuvrability than that offered by a conventional alpine ski and specifically the ability to travel backwards and perform small radius turns with greater ease. 180o and 360o+ turns are also relatively easy (he says...) and this has lead to a rapid rise in their popularity, particularly amongst the younger population. More and more skiboarders are turning up in fun parks performing tricks in half pipes and on rails. Innovations such as the Soul grind plate (which attaches to the binding plate under the ski boot) allow skiboarders to do this. They also have a big appeal for established alpine skiers who want to try something a bit different but can't be fagged going all the way back to being a total beginner.
Head marketed a product with releasable bindings - the Big Easy - fatter than a conventional skiboard but this time with no riser plate.

Ever since 2003 Skiboard Magazine has been bringing you the latest info in the skiboarding world. We are all skiboarders, and we are all dedicated to skiboarding. Skiboard Magazine makes no profit, (even if we do we've put much more money into the website.) Hosted generously by SBOL, Skiboard Magazine is there for the sport, and as long are there are die hard skiboarders out there, Skiboard Magazine is here to stay.
    History:
In 2002 Jason Roussel of Quebec, Canada set off to fill a gap in the online skiboard community, having a e-zine type website where skiboarders could go and find out what's happening in the skiboarding industries and what other skiboarders are doing around the world. For the end 02/03 season, SBMag was up and running, bringing all the skiboarding info into one place. But SBMag lacked a real web address and was at the mercy of bad server space (geocities.com)
SBMag in 2002 Around the same time Jon Ostroushko of Minnesota was looking to do a similar website with the name SkiboardMagazine. Unfortunatly, Jon's webdesigner had to quit the project. Jon was now left with a web address (www.skiboardmagazine.com, hosted by SBOL,) and had nothing to fill the server space with.

    Old School
Welcome to the Old School section of the site. Since the sport is extremely young, there have been many changes over the past few years. Pay close attention to the boards, the riders, the clothes and the terms that used to be used. I have no problem in saying the sport has definitely changed for the better. If you have anything to add, send me mail. This is the oldest pic I've ever seen of a boarder. This pic appeared in the 1982 issue of Spray Magazine Check out the cool board that Scott Byerly used to rip on. Check out the ad for Wake Board Magazine that appeared in the March 1993 issue of WaterSki Magazine . In case you can't read what it says, it says "Wake Board Magazine. The word in Kneeboarding and Skiboarding...for kneeboarders and skiboarders only." Can Eric Perez ever rip! He's riding the old Hyperlite Pro. This board was the first compression moulded board and it rocked the market. Had one myself. Last I heard Perez was still with Wake Tech. This board makes me laugh. I guess it was a good idea at the time though. It's a board that can be used as a kneeboard and a wakeboard.

    What is snow skating?
It's essentially a crossover sport for people who do a lot of inline skating in the summer, and who are looking to do in the winter. (As opposed to snowboarding, which is a crossover sport for people who commit vandalism and other crimes in the summer.) (That's a joke!) Note: There's a new company called Premier Snow Skate that sells something called a snow skate, but it's not the same thing as Sled Dogs snow skates. It's more like a skateboard (although I'm not sure why they don't call it a snow skateboard). I've never tried their snow skates, but I'm pretty sure you can't use them at downhill ski areas because they don't have safety leashes. You can find out more about them at their web site, http://www.premiersnowsk8.com/ Don't ask the obvious question, "How do you keep the wheels and bearings from getting full of snow?" because you don't use inline skates in the snow. Instead, you use snow skates, which are like ski boots with a short ski underneath which is about the length of the boot. The best-known (relatively) brand is Sled Dogs, which was based right here in the Twin Cities. The next obvious question is: "Are they hard to learn?" Not at all. If you can skate or ski, you can learn snow skating and skiboarding easily. They behave differently than skis or snowboards do, but it's easy to pick it up. And if anyone asks, "Are they fun?" I tell them, "Yeah, they're a blast." You can do all sorts of tricks on them, and they give you the freedom to go all-out without breaking too many dog bones.

Main article: History of skiing The original Nordic ski technology was adapted during the early twentieth century to enable skiers to turn at higher speeds. New ski and binding designs, coupled with the introduction of ski lifts and snow cats to carry skiers up mountains, enabled the development of alpine skis. Meanwhile advances in technology in the Nordic camp allowed for the development of special skis for skating and ski jumping.
